What would you pick?

Would you use two Delta skymiles tickets for Portland, ME(PWM) to Atlanta, GA(ATL) or pay $500.00 ($250.00 X 2)?

Option #1 Use the tickets save the cash

Option #2 Buy the tickets through Delta's site, charge them on either Delta Blue Skymiles card or Sheraton's Amex. Save the tickets for 2 X 30,000(extra 5,000 points x 2 gained over time) points to Carribean.

The break down

A) 1,000 point online booking bonus x 2
B) Either 500 Sheraton Points or 750 Skymiles from Amex Card
C) Actual flight miles flown(not sure how many) + segments
D) Save tickets for Carribean trip @30k miles each some time in future.

Important note; I'm NOT interested in earning points for elite tears or upgrades. I just use free tickets for coach travel only. (I thought that would be worth mentioning)

Thanks in Advance for your help

One thing that I would take into consideration is if you have any family or friends out of state that could necessitate potential last minute travel in the future. For example - if you have elderly parents out of state, chances are you may one day need to get there quickly and as you know, last minute fares can be pretty high - even the emergency fares. But - with the miles, the most you would ever have to pay is the last minute redemption fee (at Delta $75.00.) Just a thought to consider.

Tasnam: This is a no brainer! Purchase the tickets.Don'T even waste your time debating, because if you do wait any longer I bet you that $250 air fare will be long gone!

it's highly likely that a Portland - Carribean ticket will cost much more than $250 r/t (unless you're flying to Puerto Rico on a charter!), so that's one point to consider (of course, you still need to be flexible to get the award seats). The other more important question is do you think you will ever need to fly anywhere in the Delta system on very short notice. If so, then save the miles and buy the ticket for $250.

elite tears - what you cry when you have 48,965 miles for the year - and no mileage runs left.

Seriously - if you can get $250 tix - take them, not many transcon flights are that cheap!

Also, check out the ATL-MHT fares or the ATL-BOS. Both are only about an hour away, and the fares are often much cheaper.

Thanks for the tips....paying is the way to go!!

Now Skymiles blue Amex (1.5 miles per dollar spent)or Sheraton Starpoints card(flexibility)? Which would you use to charge it on?

islandclub, elite tears - probably tears shed by Deltas elite members upon hearing their new 2001 downgrade program?
