Put up a sign up on my apartment building message board selling boxes of Cornflakes for $1. A guy just called up saying he would buy 10 and laughed when he heard what I was doing. Guess I will be getting some Kelloggs(and some cheap miles) afterall http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Off to buy the stuff now, hope some FTer hasn't beaten me to it and cleaned out the shelves already.

myleguy Jun 18, 2000 12:39 pm

Denver Shoppers: most King Soopers have the 18oz boxes of Corn Flakes with mileage for $1.79 with your Sooper Card. I also bought a big box of raisins to mix in with the corn f lakes because they're so dull on their own. Also, there's a $1.00 off 2 boxes of any Kellogg's cereal in today's Post.

Efrem Jun 18, 2000 3:12 pm

beetee: if you're near the Mass. line, try driving a few miles north. All the major chains around here have them. (I'm north of Boston, not south, but I can't imagine that a Massachusetts chain would split its shipments to make sure that airplane boxes stayed out of Attleboro.)

beetee Jun 18, 2000 4:53 pm

Hey THANKS for the suggestions!!!

No problem. I figure the odds are pretty slim that I will win anyway.

lkuby Jun 22, 2000 9:57 am

I learned something new from the Kellogg's 8000 number that is very good news. For three brands--Corn FLakes, Low Fat Granola and Just Right--you receive 250 miles per box.

I am buying $1000 worth (500 boxes at Safeway) of those particular brands and donating them to a food bank that will pick them up at my home. I will earn 125,000 miles, worth $2500 in my book (at 2 cents per mile). With the tax deduction for a charitable contribution factored in, I expect that my purchase will cost me only $690. For that I will receive good will and $2500 worth of travel.

JayBrian Jun 22, 2000 10:06 am

Isn't each coupon worth 100 miles?
500x100=50,000 miles.

Efrem Jun 22, 2000 10:19 am

Are the boxes labeled for 250, or is this something they do for you when they get the coupons? Do you know if it's possible to mix 100-mile coupons and 250-mile coupons in one batch of 5? Inquiring minds (some of them connected to bodies that actually eat a couple of these brands) want to know!

I'm a little suprised they're not giving this more PR. Seems like a costly thing to do if they're not going to milk it for all it's worth to sell more cereal.

Papollo Jun 22, 2000 10:26 am

Can anyone confirm the 250 miles rumor? I just checked the rules at www.kelloggs.com and there's nothing mentioned about this. Then again, Corn Flakes aren't mentioned as an eligible product, so the rules need revision.

You're correct. Even on the cornflakes boxes that I've been cutting up doesn't list it as a contest cereal.

I think my parish food bank was thinking of me. The bulletin had an announcement asking for simple meals to supplement for missed school meals. It specifically requested CEREAL http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

anupindi Jun 22, 2000 12:04 pm

Am I missing something here? Isn't it
1 box = 500 points? i.e
$1.50 = 500 points

$75 = 25000 points = 1 free ticket?

I haven't taken advantage of this program yet. Am planning to though...

So, please correct my math and letme know how
$350 came into picture !

Kamala

ASCJSTEP Jun 22, 2000 12:56 pm

ANUPINDI -
1-BOX = 100 MI
5-BOXES = 500 MI
25-BOXES = 2500 MI

THE PRICES OF CEREALS DIFFER DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU BUY THEM AND WHAT BRAND, THERE ARE SEVERAL BRANDS INVOLVED IN THIS PROMO CHECK THEIR WEBSITE AT KELLOGGS (SOME OF THEM CAN BE VERY PRICEY!)

AS FOR THE $350 I DON'T KNOW WHERE THAT CAME FROM UNLESS YOUR REFERRING TO THE 250 MI PER BOX ON CORN FLAKES THAT WAS MENTIONED EARLIER - HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO VERIFY THAT FOR MYSELF YET, BUT AM VERY INTERESTED IN FINDING OUT http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

GOOD LUCK IN THE PROMO - I HAVE ONLY RECIEVED 500AA MI FOR THIS PROMO SO FAR BUT MAY SOON BE PUTTING IN MORE EFFORT, ESPECIALLY IF I CAN FIND THOSE 250MI PER BOX CEREALS!

I just got off the phone with a Kellogg representative ((800) 962-1413) who confirmed that certain products will have 250 point coupons.

However, the 250 point coupons will only be on the "club packs" which she said are 48 to 64 ounces packages. They are usually sold at places like Sam's Club.

Efrem Jun 22, 2000 4:46 pm

ASCJSTEP,

Your Caps Lock key seems to be stuck on. Please turn it off so you don't seem to be shouting at us.

ASCJSTEP Jun 23, 2000 3:42 pm

Sorry about that I didn't realize it was on until after my post - Thanks

PS: I wouldn't shout at anyone http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif, not intentionally

DC_flyer Jun 24, 2000 7:27 pm

For anybody thinking the codes inside the Kellogg cereal boxes are FF mile related: their not.

A person accrues points by entering the codes on the Kellogg website. They can redeem the points for toys and other children items.

TexasYankee Jun 26, 2000 9:37 am

Thanks Bluebonnet! I found them at City Market for #2.69 for the 18oz. Also in the Central Texas Area I found that a Brookshire Brothers store (in Wimberley) ordered them a case at a time for $2.00 a box. I ordered 10 cases. All have arrived with the FF coupon offer attached. I have a cookie recipe but it only takes 2 cups per batch and am giving the rest away to Corn Flakes lovers. The food bank will get some as well.

TribeFlyer Jun 28, 2000 10:50 am

Well, I've joined the crowd--Giant is selling the 18 oz box of cornflakes for 1.59 this week, and I got a few stares when I placed 10 of them on the checkout counter! Where are those recipes again? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

DC_flyer Jun 29, 2000 10:01 am

Thanks, TribeFlyer. I'm down to my last 50 boxes of Corn Flakes. I guess its time to stock up again! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Library Dragon Jun 29, 2000 10:39 am

Well, I'm frustrated!
Here in N. Alabama all the new Corn Flakes boxes have arrived with a Disney Cruise contest. No AA coupons in site, except for the pricey cereals. I have yet to see one Crispex box with a coupon on it. Poor sportsmanship on Kellogg's part.

hulagirl Jun 29, 2000 2:20 pm

The Kelloggs website contest is only good for residents in the continental U.S., not Hawaii, etc. I wonder why?

Hmmmm, perhaps someone at Kelloggs doesn't understand that Hawaii is part of the US. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

DC_flyer Jul 3, 2000 6:04 am

Bought another thirty boxes. Thanks for the scoop, Tribeflyer.

Sydneyjb Jul 3, 2000 8:57 am

72 Boxes of Mini Wheats with raisins at $1.50 a box. I sure hope the people at the food bank don't get too constipated.

The HEB store in San Marcos, TX has the 18 oz Corn Flakes for $1.95 a box. If you can find a HEB that is near a WalMart Superstore then you may find lower prices as these stores have lower prices than other HEB stores to compete with WalMart. Any more lower prices in the Austin, Tx area?

TexasYankee Jul 18, 2000 7:42 pm

Here is a cookie recipe:

Corn Flakes Cookie Recipe

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter or margarine
1½ cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups corn flakes (measure before crushing)
½ cup chopped nuts

 cream sugar and butter
 sift flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar
add to sugar/butter mixture
 mix in crushed corn flakes, vanilla, and nuts
 roll into small quarter size balls and press down
on an ungreased cookie sheet spaced well as
cookies will spread out
 bake at 350 degrees for 10 – 12 minutes
 remove cookies from pan with a spatula
these cookies will freeze well (if there are any left over!)

FlyAAway Jul 18, 2000 9:46 pm

Plenty of Kellogg's on the shelf in Plymouth, Indiana. Near South Bend. No bargains, but the availability is outstanding.

Oh, what store? Kroger's!

Bluebonnet Jul 18, 2000 11:30 pm

Texas Yankee -- that recipe sounds like one my grandmother used to make. Think I'll try it and reminisce some weekend!

Thanks for the advice. Two HEB stores in San Antonio had the 18 oz. for $1.86 & $1.89. My next stop will be Sam's. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

TexasYankee Jul 21, 2000 9:05 pm

Dealburp, let me know if Sams in San Antonio has them because they were not available in any of the Sams in Austin. The $1.86 at HEB was good. Wish I liked Corn Flakes! It is too hot in Texas to bake those cookies now. I am giving the Corn Flakes to needy folks.

Neal Jul 22, 2000 9:31 pm

On another note, does anyone know why two 33 cent stamps are required on every envelope containing 5 coupons? I weighed an envelope and it was well under 1 ounce. Not even a 55 cent stamp should be necessary. Did anyone who called the 800 number ask about this? Thanks!

Neal

Efrem Jul 23, 2000 7:34 am

Two 33¢ stamps are NOT necessary. That's either an error on Kellogg's part or an oversimplification based on the assumption that most people only have that value at home.

However, I'd check the accuracy of your scale. Unless you have a weightless envelope and shaved more off the coupons than the dotted lines suggest, 5 of them (per the official scale at my local PO) take you over an ounce and into 55¢ territory. If you send in multiples, it's another 22¢ for each group of 5, at least through 20 coupons for $1.21.

Neal Jul 23, 2000 9:10 am

Efrem,

Thanks for the info. BTW, my scale is electronic and is extremely accurate. Yet,
5 coupons in an envelope comes out to only .75 ounces. I'll have a postal clerk weigh them just to make sure I have enough postage. Thanks again!

Neal

dhacker Jul 23, 2000 11:03 am

There are at least two sizes for these coupons depending on the size of the cereal box. The 18oz corn flakes (that I got for $1.59 at Giant in Maryland)have a very large coupon. This would affect weight/postage.

Do you have to send them in 5 at a time or can you send in 10 or 20 or whatever all together?

Anyone from the DC area might be interested to know that Giant currently has forms that offer one DC United soccer ticket with every purchase of 3 kellogs cereals through 8/12/00. I wonder when this started, maybe a can find and submit some of the $1.59 corn flakes receipts!

Efrem Jul 24, 2000 1:47 pm

You can send in more than 5 at a time as long as you send an exact multiple of 5. I've sent in up to 20 (and have gotten credit). If there's a limit it's probably much higher than that.

And that's a good point about weight and coupon size. The ones the PO weighed were the larger size from Corn Flakes, since I got six cases for a local food bank. Five of the smaller ones may well be under an ounce. I suppose Kellogg's was playing it safe, since someone could read the rules on a box with a small coupon and assume they applied to all.

I went to the Sam's on 281 and Bitters and was unable to find any 18oz Corn Flakes.

MileKing Jul 24, 2000 2:53 pm

$1.59 for Corn Flakes at Giant in the DC area? Wow, that is a great deal. Safeway has the 18 oz. box on sale for $2.00 for Safeway Club members and I thought that was good. Wonder if Giant will discount that price if you order a few cases of Corn Flakes. Also, do the AA miles get credited electronically or does Kelloggs send you certs.?
