2nd Sheraton Amex Question

Here's the second part of this card question.

I just booked a vacation using both starpoints and money(Amex starwood card). Starwood had me prepay for the vacation $2400.00. I've paid the card off and received the 2400 points into my starwood account. No problem so far.

Here's my question. What else should I get for extra points? I have not stayed since it will be in November.

Example #1 Marriott card 3 points per dollar + 10 points for the room rate in your folio.

Example #2 Delta is 2 miles per dollar on the card(blue/gold Skymiles Amex) + miles (varies depending on tier) flown.

Should I be getting any bonuses? Or is my 1 starpoint per dollar on the Amex what I should expect?

Thanks for your help

If I am understanding your question, you will not receive any additional Starpoints until your actual stay at the Starwood property.

After, you will receive the points for your stay, and whatever bonus you may receive (depending on your Starwood status). The Starpoints that you have already received are presumably from the dollars spent using your Starpoint Amex. I hope this provides some clarity, but I am not sure that I understand what I just wrote .

Thanks.

But why and what points would I earn in November? (Other than meals, misc room charges ect.)

Exam #3 If for whatever reason this was a Marriott stay, and they charged me up front, I would be losing the 10 points per dollar on my room folio. (plus tier bonuses)

$2400 x 10 points on folio = 24,000 points
$2400 x 3 on Visa = 7200 points

All I have received is the 2400 starpoints for the Amex card

$2400 x 1 point on Amex = 2400 starpoints
NO Room Yet No starpoints from folio (prepaid)

Did I get screwed?

This is a Starwood stay, correct? If so, you would receive two starpoints (from Starwood, not AMEX) for each night, for the cost of each night. For example, if one night was $150, you would receive 300 points for that night (sans any Starwood status; you would receive more according to elite level).

The points that you have already received, are the points from your AMEX card, simply for charging it.

Does this make sense?

i think you got screwed

i hope not ..

if i understand what u say .. is u already prepaid your vacation .. so there is no starwood earned for the nights .. but you might get some starwood points from whom you bought your vacation package from ,i.e .. starwood vacation they give 2000-10000 starpoints as a bonus.

if your stay wasnt prepaid then you will get the following

2400 points for charging the card
2or3 starpoints/$ spent during your stay (depends on your status)

hope that help

KSA_USA, no he did not. The Starpoints that he earns from his American Express card are independent from the Starpoints that he will receive for the night(s) stayed.

Try to think of it this way- if he had paid for his vacation with, say, a Visa card, would he not receive Starpoints at all? Of course he would (just not from American Express). He just would not get a Starpoint per dollar spent for (not) using his American Express card. Again, the 2,400 Starpoints already earned came from American Express, not from Starwood Properties. American Express will transfer those points over to his Starwood account three to five days after his billing cycle ends.

Can someone please back me up on this?

Starwood hotels booked using a prepaid voucher, even if it is from Starwood vacations do not earn any starpoints or count as a "stay" for earning an elite level. If you charge additional items to your room then these will earn starpoins (I think). As mentioned before Starwood Vacations usually has some kind of bonus offer where they will give you points (not the hotel itself).

I understand that part of the trip was booked using some form of reward. Part of it was purchased with actual money, though. This person ought to receive miles for that portion of the stay that was purchased with money, and not the reward.

I must admit, now I am confused. I have a pretty good feel for Starwood's policy, but perhaps I am mis-led on this. If I am wrong, I apologize. Perhaps a more cogent way of phrasing your question could have eliminated my confusion.

Good Luck, and enjoy your vacation.

Thanks for the help,

I think there is some truth in most of the replies.

It was not and Starwood "Vacation". As for a voucher, i'm not sure. I simply called Starwood had them take point out of my account and had to pay half of the cost with cash(Amex CC).

It think the best thing to do from past history is wait two months and call up and them say that I never got any points from booking the trip. Fax them a copy of the proof that I paid the bill and see if they work with me for triple points.

Should I push for 8 nights stays credits?

I paid cash 1/2 cash and 1/2 points for each night?

I don't understand why Starwood would require you to prepay a complete stay. But you should get points and at least four night credits for sure. As you say, if you don't get them they'll fix it.
