FlyerTalk Live! - Need some help testing the new area.

To all FlyerTalkers. We are in the process of testing our new "FlyerTalk Live!" chat area and we need some volunteers. If you are interested please go here, enter your name of choice, hit "connect", wait for the chat client to launch and start talking.

For FlyerTalkers with concerns about how this may affect the Bulletin Board we have in place, please don't worry as the chat client is currently residing on an independant server and will not impact the BB server.

Thank you very much for your help and we will appreciate any and all feedback.

ThanX...

Unfortunately, I got an error message saying that if I was behind a firewall or proxy server (aren't plenty of us?), I would probably not be able to use this.

Michael at WebFlyer Apr 13, 2000 4:17 pm

That's good feedback TravelWeary. I hope I didn't inconvenience you overly much. I wasn't aware of how this would effect people behind firewalls. Let me look into it and see if there is a way around it.

Thank you for your feedback.

Here is my feedback from behind a LAN...

DigiChat could not locate the specified host. Please make sure you are using the correct host name.
java.net.UnknownHostException: host3.digichat.com

Eugene Apr 13, 2000 4:28 pm

It works fine, no problem to report... yet... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Baze Apr 13, 2000 4:38 pm

I am behind a company firewall. Could not read the server, server timed out.

EMD Apr 13, 2000 5:43 pm

worked fine from home!

doc Apr 13, 2000 5:54 pm

Seems easy enough to navigate in and out of! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Not much going on here- yet! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

BobCharlap Apr 13, 2000 5:59 pm

No probs at all loging in to the new chat rooms!

Wish someone else was there! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif

Catman Apr 13, 2000 6:06 pm

the Boards loaded fine... but there was no one there.

It would odd to talk to myself!

Michael: you're getting e-mail

dsimon Apr 13, 2000 6:20 pm

Things work fine on this end. I can already see my productivity coming to a crashing halt http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Old Gold Apr 13, 2000 6:55 pm

It seems to be working OK, just what I need, something else to keep me from doing my work!

Catman Apr 13, 2000 6:59 pm

OMNI: and no big deal except for me... could we change the background color for the United LOGO from that depressing black to something more fun like Dark Blue or Gray?

It's no big deal, just me being finicky.

Now something else to keep me from the cats. Yaz already has his paw on the circuit break... (TILT!)

jeffreyt Apr 13, 2000 7:07 pm

I received:

"No response was received from the server. The DigiChat Server may not be running, or may not be a compatible version. Please contact the administrator in charge of the site.

jave.io.InterruptedIOExecption: Read Time Out"

Also: Any chance of making it so, when it does work, that it uses only the nickname we use on FT?

Kunoichi Apr 13, 2000 7:08 pm

Just to be obtuse... it doesn't work in the lynx browser.

No chat for me, unless I sneak on from work... ;_;

CaliforniasCentralCoast Apr 13, 2000 7:15 pm

Worked OK for me about 6:10 PM Pacific Time on April 13...

Cali

Lowfare Apr 13, 2000 7:23 pm

No one in chat room except me. It was working fine though.

Andrew Yiu Apr 13, 2000 7:29 pm

It worked fine on my computer!!

I think we should all set up a time and chat!!

sasha Apr 13, 2000 8:09 pm

Works like a charm. Thanks for using a java applet client - means it'll most likely work from my Linux box! (UNLIKE the beta-test of webflyernet! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif - which doesn't work at all even on Windoze, for that matter)

Works fine, no problems, but I was the only one home! Good job!

shadow Apr 14, 2000 12:05 am

Just spent about 15 minutes in there with MileDog, Empress, Jon Toner & a few others. Everything seems to work A-OK. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

wingless2 Apr 14, 2000 1:22 am

It worked just fine for me.

ThirdDegree Apr 14, 2000 1:22 am

From work this afternoon I got the same message as LAX 1K. But tonight from home it was great and I spent a pleasant hour plus in there with little difficulty. I think I got booted accidentally at one point, but I was able to get right back in.

Thank you for getting this up and running! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

kyklin Apr 14, 2000 2:03 am

Worked from home (IE5, cable modem, behind router but no firewall)

SMessier Apr 14, 2000 6:05 am

Worked fine this morning. No one else there http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif but it worked fine...

I just got the same error message as LAX1k, but I'm behind my firewall at work (just as well, otherwise I'd never get anything done http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ). I'll try again from home.

ranles Apr 14, 2000 7:33 am

Sorry, I tried, but could not seem to get my message to the others. Where is the manual??

kokonutz Apr 14, 2000 7:39 am

ranles...I was there...just had it minimized while I was browsing the "real" FT.

kokonutz Apr 14, 2000 7:54 am

Works just fine. Tried the regular and private chat features with a guninea pig...

RKG Apr 14, 2000 8:05 am

I got in fine this morning from the office.
I could get in with no problem.

james Apr 14, 2000 8:10 am

It's fine for me - an a party making three people there!

geo1004 Apr 14, 2000 9:03 am

works for me... koko and I just traded insults... boy was that fun!!!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

dvelata Apr 14, 2000 10:27 am

Catman:

The United icon is actually taken directly from their site - background and all. Amazingly enough, that's their background! It is a dark blue, but because of the restrictions on colors for the WWW, it's very dark. Thanks though!

protomartyr Apr 14, 2000 10:29 am

I was just there and it worked fine. I had to leave though because I was all by myself and I got scared.

dg1 Apr 14, 2000 11:13 am

Worked for me -- logged in time to see everyone leave <grin>

Catman Apr 14, 2000 11:45 am

Hi Michael: A few technical things:

*There were about six users on when I got booted off the system and could not get back on for awhile. I guess maybe it's because I was typing too fast.

*Can't seem to save the United LOGO in my profile. I like the F-T one, but U-A's my airline.

(just a suggestion: would love personal logos... like a sheep for PremEx or a lion for QUiet Lion or a tree for baobab.

I don't have to tell you what LOGO I would love!)

Again, good luck Michael and thanks.

kokonutz Apr 14, 2000 11:48 am

It'd be nice if it remembered who we are when we log back in. Also tree wanted me to point out that there is no BA logo http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

geo1004 Apr 14, 2000 12:32 pm

Also, it really needs a password... I just logged on as geo1004, then catman, and then Rudi. This could be dangerous. Be careful. Stolen identities http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

I can tell kokonutz from the tone of his posts, but everyone else is a mystery to me... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Beckles Apr 14, 2000 12:42 pm

Doesn't work for me from my work ... firewall I suppose ... works fine from home ... but you've got to add a username/password or it will never work!

james Apr 14, 2000 12:44 pm

Beckles, Nutz and Geo are absolutely right. Can you use the FT password database in some way?

Smiley's would be good too http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
