I am enjoying the chat, but where is everyone on this Friday night http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Catman May 1, 2000 11:27 am

Thanks for taking away that black background for U-A! I like this new United logo better.

Bad luck so far today! I log on, go away for a few seconds and Flyertalkers pop in and out.

I have NO ONE TO TALK TOO! I guess Yaz and Eddie will ahve to learn how to log on! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I love the chat (say good bye to any productivity... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif), but I must say, it can be hard to find anyone on there.

But I have had some great chats with Burkey, Jon Toner, Randy, and others. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Ling May 1, 2000 4:11 pm

Logged on Saturday? burkey, SMessier and * came and went without a word. Then SMessier logged in again and we had a nice chat.

Ling May 1, 2000 4:33 pm

Logged on a minute ago. Someone named "tweed" logged on and said he was checking on icons for Catman. "burkey" logged on and left without a word AGAIN. I don't think I'm going to use the chat again until passwords are set up, 'cause it's spooky. It reminds me of thetrip.com bbs. All those retarded teenagers who need a life.

I'm using the chat line and found a slight deficiency: you can't cut and paste text out of a chat window. One of the chatters (chatterers?) wanted to repeat something he had said to me before a new chatter logged in and was able to do so because the applet doesn't have cut and paste.

DoggyDaddy May 2, 2000 8:59 pm

Just got on - and off. There seemed to be no one there. Lurker was on but didn't talk. I don't know if Lurker is a real name, or someone who "lurks in the background".
Anyway, I had a conversation with Catman at Noontime today. It worked fine - except. Sometimes, if you don't type fast enough, the thread of the conversation gets mixed up - you are answering a question several posts ago. I guess this is something you have to get used to.
Anyway, the system seems to work fine from home and at work.

Punki May 5, 2000 10:08 pm

Forward so it is easy to find. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Again

shadow May 8, 2000 10:08 pm

Signed on twice today...nobody home. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Punki May 9, 2000 9:27 pm

Forward again!

Randy Petersen May 9, 2000 10:05 pm

We will be moving the chat to the top location so it's easy to find. AND, we do understand that there are concerns about which name people can log in, shared by both FT members and us, the guys and gals behind the screen. We are doing everything we can to create a solution, but honestly, it's slow going since we are working with two different technology suppliers. But, we know there can be a solution, so please go with us on this one.

I've actually enjoyed signing on and finding people at regular intervals though it's still a hidden test. Enjoy....

RKG May 9, 2000 11:15 pm

I have logged on two or three times each day for the past three days. Seems like nobody is on. Oh, well, I will keep trying. I did talk with Catman and Sebastien the other day.

Jon Toner May 10, 2000 10:01 am

Truth be told, while I think the chat area being hidden makes it harder for some folks to find, the folks that DO find their way there are FT regulars/evangelists.

Right now it is like a Club Room. Once it is easily found, I hope it doesn't become a gate area.

I am having a little wierdness with the icons on Live Chat... when I entered there were no uicons avaialble. Then I tried again and I only got 5 (popular ones like ATT or Amex http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif) . Has this happened to anyone else, or did they just not load for me?

Got in fine from Japan! No one else around, though - happens a lot w/ the time dif. No other ex-pat's around, huh?

(I never have anything interesting to say, so no harm done! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif )

Good luck chatting! -KP

Dorian May 11, 2000 12:49 am

Chatted with Catman and RGK last night on a 33.6 connection from central Europe. All worked fine....though being able to log-on as anyone is a bit weird!

Also, why doesn't it REALLY 'save' my settings...are they only for that particular session?

Dorian

DoggyDaddy May 12, 2000 10:48 am

Since the "I Love You" fiasco, it looks like they have put a firewall up at my work location. I guess I will have to do my talking from home now.

Too bad that when one person really screws things up, a lot of innocent people suffer.

The chat definitely works fine for me (and it's fast, too), but I am missing the LH logo.... http://216.167.74.240/forum/frown.gif However, the attendance was great when you took the board down... http://216.167.74.240/forum/wink.gif

spartacus May 14, 2000 4:06 pm

No problem entering, but I was the only one on, kind of strange for a Sunday evening, I thought. Oh, well.

kidpachinko May 15, 2000 5:24 pm

Think we had a record 15 people last Friday!

Not a big deal, but "settings" doesn't work for me. (??) -My mouse arrow goes into perma-hourglass mode (but still functions).

BostonBoy May 15, 2000 7:01 pm

I believe the day FT was closed (Thursday?) I saw the chat make it up to 18 people.

A new record?

Mizu May 16, 2000 6:15 pm

YES! A LH icon! Finally! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

kidpachinko May 16, 2000 11:06 pm

Still can't get the Settings bar to do anything for me.

-We had 19 people today after FT shut down!

Randy Petersen May 18, 2000 5:21 pm

Kidpachinko - We'd love to try and assit fix any problem with the settings not working for you, they seem to work well for everyone else. You don't list an email address so please contact me and we'll try and help. Thanks for your contributions to FT.....

kidpachinko May 18, 2000 6:43 pm

Randy,

Sorry about that. You can e-mail me at [email protected]

There was one other Tokyo person in the Buzz room who was also "logo-less." -Although I didn't check whether this was on purpose or not.

Good luck - although I don't mind changing my "name" to "Yeah?SowhatifIdon'thavealogo?"
(It adds some mystery to my otherwise mundane posts. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )

Randy,

The "Settings" worked on my laptop at home tonight. (Somehow I now feel complete. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif )

Will check again at work Monday. (Did you change something, or is my laptop [as I suspect] better than my work mainframe?

bulkhead May 19, 2000 3:50 pm

Tonight, whilst in the chat room "The Buzz", I tried to change to room "Dry Run", but was defeated by a password prompt. (I tried my FT password to no avail).

Am I missing something? Is there an elitist club? Do I need to join the freemasons? We deserve to know!

kidpachinko May 21, 2000 5:57 pm

Michael,

Just writing to confirm that, although the "Settings" button worked properly on my laptop at home, my office computer still can't work it.

Can you e-mail me at [email protected] when you get a chance with some advice on how to make my desktop work like my laptop? (I'm weak on the techie stuff.)
