flyertalk makes wabc7 (before the time warner blackout)...

sunday night, the local news did a piece on "how to fly for free". featured in the piece is now the most famous board member of them all....you guessed it, pudding guy!!! also included was our fearless leader, randy peterson, although clearly in a supporting role. this report aired approximately 45 min before time warner cable pulled the station off of the air for most of manhattan cable viewers.

just in under the wire guys!!!

We've learned that unless we check in for these shows early, they may give out time on air away, TV station said they learend that from an airline.......hope it was interesting, though probably all the good stuff was left on the cutting room floor. Did they describe all of us that visit and spend time on FlyerTalk as "Mileage Day Traders?"

Maybe someone should declare "National Frequent Flyers" day where we would be saluted for all of our efforts on getting miles and points and upgrades and free hotel stays.

It could come on the day "Flyertalk" took off, the SECOND time (Randy, you would know the date) or on Randy's birthday.

OR we can do it on our board and send out press releases and see who covers it. I can wear my Flyertalk tee shirt and Commander Catcop badge to work!

OMNI: I AM PROBABLY IN THE MINORITY OF GIVING PUDDING GUY "GOD-LIKE" STATUS. WE ARE ALL JUST ORDINARY PEOPLE, YES I CONSIDER MYSELF ORDINARY TOO.

IF THERE IS A TRUE LEADER IN THE WORLD OF FREQUENT FLYING: IT'S RANDY PETERSON. PUDDING GUY MAY BE "FAMOUS" BUT THAT'S ONLY BECAUSE SOME OF US HAVE REMAIN HAPPILY ANONYMOUS AND DODGED PUBLICITY.

Actually, they did use the term mileage day traders, I remember hearing it and saying that is a perfect description of it.

It was a good piece, I had heard about him, understood what he was doing, but until I saw all those cases of pudding really didn't understand how much work it was.

Warning: The below post has no intention of flaming
anyone, except the people at ABC.

In my personal opinion, I think that the report was
horrible. All during "The Practice" (one of my
favs!), they were advertising the "secrets of flying
for free" and how "one man does it all of the time."

So, I stay up later to watch the segement. Then I
hear the word "pudding" and I think "I guess ABC is
just jumping on the Pudding Guy bandwagon, and he is
the 'man who does it all the time.'"

I thought that the report would have some other info,
but was I wrong. The majority of the time was
explaining what Pudding Guy did. There was only about
30 secs at the end to tell of ways to get miles.

If the promo was "Guy gets 2 million miles and flies free forever," the report was excellent. But, the promo said "how to fly free" not "how one guy was very smart but the average person who doesn't read FlyerTalk or fly much would have no idea how the hell to get that many miles." It was a clear bait and switch to get you to stay up for the news.

But, not everyone in NY know what a mile is. They ASSUMED you did, as they never gave a definition.

I have forwarded this to ABC, and I will post their reply.
