Fee For AMEX MR Redemptions

In today's Milelink news letter, the following was stated:

effective May 1 each time Membership Rewards
points are transferred to a participating frequent flyer account, a fee of
3,500 Membership Rewards points will be assessed. Canadian may have not been
pleased with this development as well.

So, correct me if I am wrong.... If a MR client transfers 1,000 miles or more to a partner such as Delta or Continental, the client will also have 3,500 MR points deducted in addition to the points transferred to the partner.

This is not good news, but maybe I am reading it the wrong way.

No, this is strictly Canada and the subject of an Editorial letter to that program in the April issue of InsideFlyer magazine, copy of which is available in the magazine part of webflyer.com
