Free web based e-mail and free miles ...
I found this new service that offers the usual free web based e-mail that's a dime a dozen now, but the twist is they give you points for using their service, and the points are redeemable for ff miles.
The service is called Birdmail and can be found at http://www.birdmail.com . It doesn't look like you can earn the points that fast, though they do promise more ways to earn in the future.
Also, you get referral bonuses of 10% of the points anyone you refer earns ... so if you do signup and are feeling generous, tell them [email protected] referred you (there's a place to put the "beckley" part in at the bottom of the sign-up form).

There is a limit of 50 birdmiles per day.
To earn 1000 Mileage Plus miles you would need 20,000 birdmiles which by my calculations would take you about 400 days to earn.
Assuming 1 birdmile per message read this means you would have had 20,000 views of the author's pages. At a standard advertising rate of $3 per thousand views the author would have earned $60.
The value of 1000 miles is, by my claculations worth about $20 leaving a tidy profit of $40 for the author.
Not worth it IMHO.
cheers Peter

The way I figure it is I use Yahoo now (which wasn't working this morning
), for which I get nothing in return, or I can use Birdmail, which even if it takes two years to earn something, something is still more than nothing!
Besides, I'm hoping at least some of you will go for it and sign up so I get 10% of your points
BTW, from the sign-up e-mail:
REMEMBER, BIRDMAIL IS GROWING ... Birdmail, one of the fastest growing sites around, is constantly in the process of adding features to our site; more ways to receive BirdPoints, and more great rewards you can earn with your BirdPoints!!
Soon we will offer "B" POINTS, where you will receive 10 to 250 BirdPoints every time you click on specially marked ads and check out our sponsor's website!! Soon after, we plan to offer BirdPoints for on-line purchases made through us. It will become MUCH easier to earn our GREAT rewards (which are also increasing in variety!)
So hopefully there will be more opportunities to earn in the future ...
After all, it can't be any worse than MileNet

Beckles,
I also signed up last year with you as the referral.
BTW, It took me a while to get used to BirdMail's email interface. So far from my experience, I rather rack up points else where. Since I don't have all day, I have to pick and choose which reward program I participate. Lastly, the biggest problem is its redeemption options which is limited.
If anyone else sign up, mine is [email protected].
