I know I'm going against the grain here but Bestfares costs me about $5 per month and I figure I get my money worth. Each year you get one discounted published fare (discount depends on the amount of the fare; I usually get $25 or $50 each for a couple of tickets). I save it for sometime when I'm stuck and need to get someplace where I don't have any other discount available.
I've also been lucky the few times that I've gone after a cheap fare. I'm going to London in March for a Bestfares rate of $314 ($215 plus $99 taxes). Admittedly it was more than their web site advertised but I chose to travel one way on a weekend. Also a couple of years ago I needed to get from Madison, WI to LA on short notice (3 days) and no Saturday night stay. Best I could find anywhere else was about $800 but I called BestFares and they got me a ticket from Milwaukee for under $350. (It was also my introduction to CO - I've been flying them ever since).
Bestfares subscribers are also eligible for the 25% discount on Priority Pass. I think that previously was only available to IAPA members. Plus that shiny magazine each month sometimes surprises me with some discount or other information that I didn't know.
