Worst case scenario
Welcome to Hell, pick one:
1. Having a ticket for a Comair flight out of CVG during a light snow shower
2. Flying Southwest from SEA to BWI with a change of planes SLC and MCI and three additional stops in STL, MDW and CLE.
3. Any flight on UA Shuttle in coach...need I say more?
4. First class on Northwest, great flight and service but 5 hours between flights stuck in DTW with no club access.

#4, and you can bet I'd find a way to beg, borrow or bribe someone to get me into the WorldClub. I'm not too proud to ask someone to take me in with them. If you're flying FC you might be able to get a comp club pass from the NW desk.
Option #2 - Call friends in DTW & have them come get me so we could go to the Windsor Casino for 3 hours.

3.5 - UA Shuttle in coach SFO-LAX. There is a light mist at SFO.
Ring. Ring.
G: Hello? (It's 4.15am)
UA: Mr. Greg99, this is United Airlines 1K desk calling - your 7am SFO-LAX flight has been cancelled due to weather. We've been able to reprotect you on the 6am flight.
G: But you just woke me up. I live an hour and ten minutes from the airport, and my flight is in an hour and 45 minutes.
UA: Well, traffic shouldn't be bad at this time of the morning.
G: OK, has my upgrade at least been protected?
UA: No, you've been put on the priority waitlist, though.
G: Ah. Can you get me a seat assignment, at least an aisle?
G & UA (in unison): Sorry, it's under airport control.
Despite that, I'd still probably have to go with Shadow and pick #4 as the deepest level of hell.

5. Anytime I have to go to JFK and LGA -- while LGA is marginally tolerable JFK is absolute HECK with all the construction and 10 million one time a year travelers who don't know where they are going.
The HEAVEN is when I am finally united (or reunited) with wonderful Flyertalk friends or Inner Circle friends and we can get out of there!
mileage addict, greg99 and shadow: if ever you are stranded at an airport I'm at you can seek refuge by coming in with me at my RCC club! If you have to stay longer and I have to leave then just stay there and tell them you are CATMAN.

Can't you purchase a 60-day WP Club pass for something like $50?
Even if you never visit another, $10/hr is a bargain! Even better if you can find a CO President's Club and use it there instead!

Southwest has a non-stop from SEA to LAS that leaves at 6:50 a.m. and arrives at 9:20a.m. They than have a non-stop that leaves at 9:25 and gets to BWI at 5:05p.m.
That flight in SEA is probably an originator, so very rarely delayed. I would bet you get to LAS early on a long haul flight like SEA-LAS. If you should miss it there is a 9:40a.m. departure via BNA. Gets you to BWI at 6:30 the latest. Book this over the Internet doing point to point and you got yourself 4 flight credits one way.
You may also want to check HP or CO for a connecting flight once you get to LAS.
Hope this helps!

The Northwest option. The relative comfort of First Class makes it worth it. I'd go to the WorldClub, get kicked out, then go to the P Club and be welcomed on account of the fact that I was flying their partner airline.
Actually, I'd probably get kicked out of the P Club too, so I'd buy a day pass or beg.
The one I'd rather die than do: Shuttle by United. A painless 1 hour flight, weather in LA, now a horrific 5 hour flight!

Well, the Shuttle isn't really THAT bad... With all the 1Ks avoiding it like the plague, upgrades are a breeze! Granted there's no service, but some snacks in your carry-on will be better anyway. Oh, and take the early morning flights, SFO ruins everything as the day goes on.
However, if you have other choices, take the other choices.

BizJet: DTW doesn't have a President's Club. So you get to spend your layover among the masses. Or perhaps on the tarmac...
Re: Southwest option: my first time on them, about 20 years ago, I bought a ticket SNA-El Paso to visit a friend who had recently moved to West Texas. All I knew about Southwest at the time was that they offered the cheapest fare on that route. Imagine my surprise when the plane made stops at PHX, ALB, and Odessa/Midland before finally touching down in El Paso. What an odyssey!
It left a bad taste in my mouth and I didn't fly them again until last Saturday, when an IAH-DAL segment on CO got cancelled and I was issued a voucher and told to go over to the Southwest ticket counter and pick up a one way to get to Love. I found the service comfortable, efficient and pleasant, just fine for a short hop. Infinitely better than option #3!
