Sorry, my Starwood packet is at home and I was having trouble finding this info on their web site-- To which domestic US airlines can you transfer Star Points to?

Carl, I racked up 5000 of my 6000+ clickmiles when they ran a special in conjunction with E-Trade, i.e., open an E-Trade account and deposit $5000 and receive 5000 clickmiles. The other miles have been from shopping purchases, usually when they have the double miles promos.

So... clickRewards had its best promotion during the holiday shopping season of '98. I think the program was in its infancy at the time. The deal was, earn 5K miles and you got a 10K bonus. e-trade made the goal much easier to reach with a 2.5K bonus (which counted toward the 5K goal) for signing up. A computer buying club offered a 1K bonus for joining, for an annual fee of I think $50. Furthermore, the usual web merchants also had some good deals (>5 miles/$) happening during this time. So, by doing all my '98 holiday shopping on the web I got the 15K clickmiles for about $500 of gifts that I would have spent anyway. Those were the days.

I called Starwood yesterday to try to clear up this question of which points do or don't qualify for the 5000 mile bonus. Basically, I was told that for every 20,000 points in my Starwood account transferred to an airline, I would get 25,000 miles! Go figure!!

Neal- they told me the same thing. Worth a try I guess!

Does it matter if I've earned any Starwood points through hotel stays? For example, if I have 0 Starwood points, then transfer my Click miles in to double them, can I immediately transfer them all out to American with no problem? Or do I have to have some hotel points to be an "active member?"

I have never stayed in a Starwood hotel-- I know that under their terms and conditions, members who are "inactive" for 12 months may have their memberships terminated and StarPoints forfeited. And it does state that transfers from other programs do not count toward "active" status.

Does anyone know what exactly does count? For example, what about charges to the no-annual-fee American Express Sheraton/Starwood card?

I believe AmEx Starwood postings are fine along with AT&T postings. I bother was the first case. He didn't have any hotel stay over a year and half. Apparently his AmEx Starwood posting were enough...

Regarding remaining an "active" member, I asked Starwood this very question last week. And their response was activity via the Starpoints card is *not* sufficient. One must spend $10 or more every year at a Starwood property - hotel stay, dinner at a restaurant, drinks at a hotel bar - to remain active.

I mailed E*Trade their money on 2/10... by 2/22 they 10,000 points were already in my Clickrewards accounts. I'm now just waiting for 20,000 points to post in my Starwood account... given that the promotion lasts until the end of March... I figure this little promotion will have gained me 25,000 miles !!!!! Does anyone know how long Starwood takes to post points from their Clickrewards account?

$25,000????? Unless they put the $10,000 in your account and doubled it, I think your calculations are a little off. $250 maybe.
