ClickRewards 1 for 2 Conversion Is Back!

Indirectly though... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif You can transfer Starwood Preferred Guest points to any of its airlines partners 1:1. And you get 5K bonus when you transfer 20K points.

From 2/1 to 3/31 ClickRewards is offering 1 for 2 conversion to SPG program. You have to transfer min 250 ClickMiles and the maximum is 10K ClickMiles.

Excellent! This will be close to 12K miles for me. However, I don't believe the points moved into Starwood from Click Rewards will qualify for the 5000 bonus miles since they are points transferred into your Starwood account and not actually earned there. I have yet to figure out how they (Starwood) can actually keep tabs on this since the breakdown does not appear in your Starwood statement.

MileKing Feb 1, 2000 8:49 am

Well, just tried to convert my 6000+ clickmiles and received a message saying it exceeded Starwood's maximum allowable redemption. I started decreasing the number by 500 at a time and resubmitting. Nothing was accepted! I got down to 1000 miles and gave up. Either there is a limit (below 1000 miles) or something is not working properly.

satori Feb 1, 2000 9:49 am

I converted clickrewards this morning and I also got the "exceeded maximum allowed" message. I could only do it with 250 miles at one time.

charles Feb 1, 2000 2:22 pm

Don't think you will get the 5,000 Bonus. Check out the fine print:
------
Starpoints must be earned within the Starwood Preferred Guest Program. Starpoint bonus based on a 1-to-1 ratio. Equivalent bonus will be awarded in accordance with other conversion ratios.
-------

This seems to imply that the points must be earned with Starpoints in order to qualify for the bonus 5,000 miles. Or am i way off here. Hope this 2 for 1 problem gets fixed quick.

Excelllent find!! Thanks.. need more Starwood points!!!

MileKing Feb 1, 2000 4:50 pm

It's working properly now!!! I just moved all 6000+ of my miles to Starwood in one transaction without incident. 3 weeks to post according to confirmation.

keithnj973 Feb 1, 2000 5:09 pm

Hello, forgive my ignorance, I joined Starwood last year and have not used them and am not familiar with the program. Am I correct to understand I can transfer (example) 5000 ClickReward points to Starwood and obtain 10000 Starwood points? Then in turn I can transfer the 10000 Starwood points to Continental and obtain 10000 miles in Continental OnePass? This seems too good to be true! I am afraid to transfer the points without being clear on it. I have wound up not staying at any Starwood properties and don't want to transfer points to their program if I can't transfer them out to OnePass. Feel free to point me to the Starwood site if anyone knows where I can read about this scenario.
Thanks!

MileKing Feb 1, 2000 6:03 pm

keith, it is exactly as you state! Move 5000 clickreward miles to Starwood for 10,000 Starwood points (offer good only thru 3/31) and you can then move the 10,000 to CO or any of the other airline programs Starwood is connected with. Starwood points do not expire so you don't have to move them to CO immediately. You can go to www.preferredguest.com to read about the Starwood program.

V21 Feb 2, 2000 11:01 am

Just transferred 10,000 clickmiles in one
transaction. However, an attempted transfer
of 10,001 clickmiles was rejected (same
"exceeds maximum mileage" message as above).

Once the Starwood miles post I'll try
transferring again and see what happens...

ThisFlightNoFuel Feb 2, 2000 12:46 pm

Is the 20K Starpoints to 25K airline miles transfer still possible? I was just on the SPG web site, and I couldn't find any mention of the 5K bonus. I know it was there before. Can someone point me towards it?

Also, can any clarify what Starpoints would be considered NOT earned "within SPG?" Do Starwood promo bonus Starpoints, Corporate Preferred bonus Starpoints, or "courtesy" Starpoints count as being from "within" Starwood Preferred Guest?

I understand that the Click Rewards X-fer would fall under thos points not earned within the programme, but what would be the others?

Oh, well. Off I go to Click Rewards to redeem whatever points happen to be there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for the headsup. Yesterday I received the 5000 clickmiles I earned for opening an E*Trade account in early December and today I promptly transfered them to my Starwood account hoping to turn them into 10,000. This is beginning to feel like legalized money-laundering. Just kidding!!!

Point of clarification: The ClickRewards/Starwood transfer is real. I was kidding about the "money-laundering" semblance.

ClickRewards replied to my inquiry and said that you can only transfer 10,000 ClickMiles to Starwood during the current promotion period. And they gave me 100 miles for asking. What a classy company!

Carl Feb 3, 2000 2:34 am

Forgive the ignorance, but how is everyone racking up 10k ClickRewards?! Are you really ordering that many $50 BN.com books, PlanetRx.com drugs, and Gap.com jeans, or is there something obvious I've missed? Like a "fill out this form to earn 5k miles without doing anything" page? Or did everyone get their mortgages through iOwn.com? Inquiring minds wanna know... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

dw Feb 3, 2000 8:45 am

Sorry, my Starwood packet is at home and I was having trouble finding this info on their web site-- To which domestic US airlines can you transfer Star Points to?

MileKing Feb 3, 2000 8:48 am

Carl, I racked up 5000 of my 6000+ clickmiles when they ran a special in conjunction with E-Trade, i.e., open an E-Trade account and deposit $5000 and receive 5000 clickmiles. The other miles have been from shopping purchases, usually when they have the double miles promos.

V21 Feb 3, 2000 9:15 am

Carl --

Well, to get my 15K clickmiles, I bought 600 pairs of Gap jeans, peeled off the UPC labels, then donated the jeans to the local Salvation Army. All were amazed that I managed to get so many miles for a mere $22,800. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

So... clickRewards had its best promotion during the holiday shopping season of '98. I think the program was in its infancy at the time. The deal was, earn 5K miles and you got a 10K bonus. e-trade made the goal much easier to reach with a 2.5K bonus (which counted toward the 5K goal) for signing up. A computer buying club offered a 1K bonus for joining, for an annual fee of I think $50. Furthermore, the usual web merchants also had some good deals (>5 miles/$) happening during this time. So, by doing all my '98 holiday shopping on the web I got the 15K clickmiles for about $500 of gifts that I would have spent anyway. Those were the days.

Neal Feb 3, 2000 7:51 pm

I called Starwood yesterday to try to clear up this question of which points do or don't qualify for the 5000 mile bonus. Basically, I was told that for every 20,000 points in my Starwood account transferred to an airline, I would get 25,000 miles! Go figure!!

keithnj973 Feb 3, 2000 8:06 pm

Neal- they told me the same thing. Worth a try I guess!

golden girl Feb 4, 2000 7:11 am

Does it matter if I've earned any Starwood points through hotel stays? For example, if I have 0 Starwood points, then transfer my Click miles in to double them, can I immediately transfer them all out to American with no problem? Or do I have to have some hotel points to be an "active member?"

LAX 1K Feb 4, 2000 11:45 am

Excellent... transferred my 500 miles to 1000 Starwood Points http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif So Any little bit counts... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

dw Feb 6, 2000 3:10 pm

I have never stayed in a Starwood hotel-- I know that under their terms and conditions, members who are "inactive" for 12 months may have their memberships terminated and StarPoints forfeited. And it does state that transfers from other programs do not count toward "active" status.

Does anyone know what exactly does count? For example, what about charges to the no-annual-fee American Express Sheraton/Starwood card?

DH Feb 6, 2000 8:15 pm

I believe AmEx Starwood postings are fine along with AT&T postings. I bother was the first case. He didn't have any hotel stay over a year and half. Apparently his AmEx Starwood posting were enough...

sanjeev Feb 7, 2000 12:14 pm

Regarding remaining an "active" member, I asked Starwood this very question last week. And their response was activity via the Starpoints card is *not* sufficient. One must spend $10 or more every year at a Starwood property - hotel stay, dinner at a restaurant, drinks at a hotel bar - to remain active.

I mailed E*Trade their money on 2/10... by 2/22 they 10,000 points were already in my Clickrewards accounts. I'm now just waiting for 20,000 points to post in my Starwood account... given that the promotion lasts until the end of March... I figure this little promotion will have gained me 25,000 miles !!!!! Does anyone know how long Starwood takes to post points from their Clickrewards account?

$25,000????? Unless they put the $10,000 in your account and doubled it, I think your calculations are a little off. $250 maybe.

Sammy Feb 26, 2000 11:39 pm

Thanks for catching my typo :-))) I think I've been on the PC too long today :-))
