MCI Internet

If you see any offers for Delta/United points for getting MCI Internet, ignore them !!! MCI Internet no longer exists and has been sold to Cable & Wireless (regulatory requirement for the MCI-WorldCom merger) - and Cable & Wireless is not giving ff points, even to those who subscribed prior to the sale.

I signed up with MCI in June and was promised 1000 Delta points/month for 5 months. I received 2000 (2 x 1000) but will not be getting any more points. So I cancelled my account with them post-haste.

before you write them off altogether, just make sure they honor an agreement with us about a final bonus due between now and the end of october. the following is an excerpt from an email i got from mci on october 9:

"...as a valued member of the MCI/Delta Airlines program, we'd like to thank you for using MCI Internet by awarding you 1,500 bonus miles. This bonus will be posted to your Delta SkyMiles account within the next six to eight weeks."

magamiles, I'm sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with MCI when they provided internet.

I signed up with MCI internet service about a year ago, received 5,000 Northwest miles for sign up in one lump sum and another 1,500 two weeks ago as a "goodbye gift". Perhaps it was because I was a charter member...who knows.

I signed up with MCI Internet April 98, and the offer that they had sent in the mail was 1000 miles each for 5 months when paying $19.95/mo. I was told then that the $15 monthly payment qualified only for a total of 1000 miles and did not qualify for 5000 miles. The miles were not posted and after a couple of inquiries they said they would post the miles. So far they have posted 2000 (similar to what megamiles reports), and after a couple of additional phone calls they said that they would post another 2000 miles. I heard nothing about the extra 1500 miles that MileageAddict or MileCrazy mention.

I'm not dissatisfied with them - I'm just pointed out the facts - MCI wasn't planning on selling their Internet service - their hand was forced. Anyways 2000 ff miles for practically nothing still works out okay. I'm just happy that I caught it in time as my credit card was still getting billed - I'm forgetful with stuff like that.

In general I am satisfied with MCI. They used to have lots of errors in their billing, but I have had hardly any billing problems with their online billing system.

They seem to have many different mileage promotions, for example MileageAddict reported earlier that he got a 1K monthly bonus with the $15 plan. I was told specifically that the $15 plan does not qualify for the 1K monthly bonus.

But when they offer someone some bonus they should honor the offer made. I have had a hard time getting the miles that they had offered me, and it has taken me several phone calls trying to get this thing straightened out, and I am still not sure if I will get all the miles that they had initially offered.

Actually my account was only for 5-6 dollars/month. I never actually used it even once but merely got it for the 1000 ff points every month. So that's why there was no point in paying money if I wasn't getting any ff points out of it. I'm in Canada now so I can't even connect (locally) even if I wanted to.

BTW, IBM Global Services is excellent as you can use it anywhere in N. America without surcharges and they have access numbers everywhere. Unfortunately, they are also cutting back benefits (it used to be free world-wide no surcharges)

Hmm. I like my T3/cable connection. No miles, but 1.5Mb/s, unbroken access, & it works when the phoneline doesn't. On a semi-related topic, why doesn't AT&T ever appear as a choice for telecom partner when one is asked to vote for one's favorite ff plan etc? I know that they only give miles to BA ffs, but (see MF's comments in the BA thread), BA are becoming more & more global...

AT&T only recently partnered with BA. They had partnerships with United and Delta which they terminated. I also do not like their $5 monthly charge if you want to get their lowest rate on their phone service.

I use their international plan, which is $3/month, & significantly cheaper per minute than Sprint etc for calls to the far-flung places I stay in contact with... They have a great rate to Canada on Sundays, too - 5c/min.

I found out that AT&T will waive for six month the $5 monthly charge for their US domestic calling plan, and offer 5000 British Airways miles for switching to AT&T. The rates are quite competitive also, with 10c/minute weekdays and 5c/minute weekends for domestic calls.
