HA or NW First Class to Hawaii?
Planning a trip to Hawaii in First, and can use either HA or NW. Have used Hawaiian before. Thinking of trying NW. Anybody have a thought on which is better?

Of course, the first focalpoint for me would be mileage accumulation. I think the ability to earn the miles from the NW flight with NW, AS, CO or KL makes the flexibility in options desireable.
If you plan to use HA and don't mind coach with a chance for upgrade, HA will offer you a F class seat for $75 each way if the plane is not full.
I have flown NW from SEA-HNL twice and enjoyed it very much. I was in F cabin once and Y the second time. Breakfast flights to Hawaii, overnighters back to Seattle. Flight attendant gave my wife and me a nice bottle of champagne upon arrival on the F class flight. But then again, we told her we were going to Maui to get married.

Good thought on the seats. That, plus the opportunity to put miles in OnePass seems to point to NW. I've just heard so many horror stories about their service. By the way, on the bought upgrades at the gate on HA, the last two times I have used them, they were asking $300 one way SEA-HNL.

Flew NW SEA-HNL coach in early December 1999, it was 1 hour late (forgot the reason)but that gave me a chance to sign up for WC. The service was good, I received my low-sodium meal before the rest of the cabin was served. The FAs were attentive, and there was a movie and free headset.

I flew NW SFO-HNL in May, 1999, in F. To HNL was ok... nothing special. From HNL was the worst service I have ever gotten on any airline. The FAs were unattentive (i.e. my food tray was not picked up until I pushed the FA button for 20 minutes,) and other issues.
I suggest HA... It can't be worse!

Omni note -- if I get this in before another post, that's two in a row from AZ...
Last time I flew NW in F (or ever) was LAX/HNL. Let's put it this way: if the tail's red, take the train instead...
Hawaiian all the way...
Omni note 2 Jailer: my reference to a red tail has nothing whatsoever to do with your Marx comments...

Check out the following website for FC fares on NW and Hawaiian. This is a consolidator and may not yield FF miles. Still, the fares are very good. http://www.travel-hawaii.com/discount_airfare.html
