Have you actually received the points, cancelled the account before being charged for 45 days (2 months, perhaps) and had the points remain in your account for an extended period of time?
If you agree to receive 5K points in exchange for at least 45 days of service, it's easy to either charge the credit card you use for 2 months or pull the points from your account. Just receiving the miles isn't an irreversible outcome, IMHO.

It's slightly less than 2 cents usually, with the "bonus", which is a frequent offer, although the exact terms vary, but there's no need to "do it now".

If it's $99/yr required for 5k points, those points can just be purchased at one of the many 'sales" for approx 2 cents/mile, which is $100 for 5k.
