New online incentive program ~ webmiles.com

Here's another new online incentive program, http://www.webmiles.com .

This one is different in that you earn "webmiles" which are only redeemable for flights, similar to how some Visa/Mastercard incentive programs work. You can not transfer these miles to frequent flyer programs and need to earn enough for an entire free ticket or a discount on a ticket. Of course the advantage of these types of programs is that you will usually earn miles on the free tickets.

If you sign up for this program, please use me as a referral ([email protected]).

Also, there's an article about the site in the Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition, but I think you need to have a password to access the article.

This is interesting but not a very good deal from a consumer standpoint. For example, if I spent $50 at more.com, I'd get $7.50 back by shopping through ebates.com or 50 WebMiles. I'd get the money from ebates.com at the end of the quarter as opposed to possibly years later (or never if they went out of business) from WebMiles.com. You do the math. Naturally, they may decide to beef up the earnings in the future to more realistic levels, but at this point it's a little weak.

Also, when I signed up (you got your points Beckles!) and went to the Shop & Earn section, I was asked to enter my password to login to the following server: CD4.CDUNIVERSE.COM. What's up with that?! CD Universe is the company whose system was recently hacked and all the customer credit card information sold. The company did a miserable job of telling customers the truth and didn't even post a notice on their site until several days after the matter had been publicly reported. If WebMiles is storing our information on a CD Universe server, I definitely don't want any part of it!!

Carl

The thought that came to mind for me regarding this new program is part of their redemption offerings:

Up to $100 Discount, Any flight: 8,000 miles

Up to $200 Discount, Any flight: 15,000 miles

Does this mean that if I find an airfare from oh...let's say SEA-OAK for $79 round trip I could get it for only 8,000 miles?

MileageAddict ~ I think it does mean that ... as a matter of fact I'm sure they'd be happy to do that for you since it's really saving them $21 ...

If I understand correctly what Carl is saying, instead of getting the 8000 miles through this site, get $120 rebate through ebates. This way you have a $79 ticket and $41 in your pocket.

Another referral for Beckles. (and when I see you, something more valuable on me: a Guiness)

OMNI FOR wanderlust: I owe YOU Sams. You must meet up with me so I can pay my growing debt (I think about 3 cases worth, and growing!)
