Could someone please answer a quick question?

When do airlinesstart dropping prices for summer fares?

Most of the special fares that are available right now are only good through the end of March.

I am trying to find a ticket to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale for the weekend before July 4th and have noticed fares of less than $200 all year long.

I know Southwest Airlines has a $$99 special right now. I'm not sure how long it's good for but I do know that some carriers have matched the special. WWW.SOUTHWEST.COM

Delta just dropped some fares on some Southeast cities -- Columbia, SC $98 RT, Myrtle Beach, SC $98 RT, Savannah, GA $98 RT. Maybe more, that was all I checked so far.

If you are not worried about getting miles, fly discount. Spirit Airlines has a $136 r/t fare to Newark from South Florida cities.

You know it is probably worth stating, that for many popular summer destinations (such as Montana, where I live) summer is peak season and you should be cautious waiting for a fare sale as none may come along. As we all know too well, the airlines set the fares to maximize income and when folks are already lining out the door to get seats then the likely availability of seats at a discount is far less.
