The problem is us New Yawkers perfect to cut people down to size with our sharp wit

Hnechets (the long post with numbers) is right! The wild kids and those banging in to the seat are unsolvable problems. The kids and their parents should be given a yellow card (like BA) followed by an arrest for air rage. The ones that bang the seat--once one of them commented on the landing. That person couldn't even steer their own leg, much less the plane! (I applaud the pilot who lands firmly near the end of the runway on a rainy day rather than glide down and waste runway--and reduce safety margins)

How about the fat people who hog your seat. I can understand the airlines reluctance to comment. I'd say that in event of a dispute, the FA should see if the fatso's arm takes more than 1/2 of the armrest. If so, the fatso can buy a second seat (it's only 1/2 price) or buy an upgrade or be arrested for theft (of my seat). If someone's a bin hog, but follows the carry-on limit, I'll tolerate that--that's not theft. I am usually very polite, but diagree with criminal behavior!

Boomer, good show as the Brits say. Pepsi would be a better choice say Catman, from a Southern boy.

I agree with the above, especially people who aren't prepared with their ticket/boarding pass/whatever, and those behind me who use the back of my seat to hoist themselves up.

Regarding people on moving sidewalks who stand on the left, what's your take when there are two sidewalks your direction (ORD between United's terminals, or SFO from United's gates)? My opinion is that both should be stand right / walk left, but I get dirty looks and comments implying that they think only the left hand walkway is for walking.

In general, though, this thread reminds me of a friend's comment that she avoids flying in summer because of all the "amateurs" out there!

Are people really that boring. Returning to YYZ from YYC yesterday. As soon as I sat down, the guy next to me starting TALK, TALK, TALK, TALK.......

How's this for a question...
I was going over some of my stuff for today's meeting, he look at my stuff and say:
"Let me guess what your job is..."
I just smiled at him and ignored him, then he goes on and show off his job, he works for Microsoft but only as a "trainer".

Next thing happened was I was reading the inflight magazine, then he told me he have read that a millions times and that the magazine was a waste of money. I then told him nicely "This magazine just came out today, how would it be possible that you have read it." He shut up.

I then took a pair of empty seats. I told him before I left, I am switching seats so I can have more spaces to work. Luckily, J class wasn't close to full yesterday. That's when I hate the gate agents, knowing that J class is not full when they do upgrades, they still put 2 people together when there are 18 other empty seats. (yesterday's flight only have 6 people in J class out of 24 seats, well once again suggest CP is in trouble, right?).

Regards,
Empress

Empress -

As per your last post -- I admit my post on this a long time ago generated a little controversy, but -- Take out a big horse-sized pill. Make sure he sees it. Swallow it. Cough discretely, smile at him and make a comment about how you're getting better. Mention that thanks to the pills, you're not infectious any more...as long as you don't miss one.

Enjoy the sudden peace.

I actually came up with a pretty effective solution to the "Kids who run wild" problem. Anyone who wants to should feel free to use it:

A few years ago, I was flying JFK-SFO in coach, and the boy sitting behind me -- appoximately 7 or so -- pulled down his tray and kept banging on it. I asked his mother a few times to get him to stop, and she tried a little, but without any real effort.

Then, when I heard he was going to visit his grandmother, I saw my opening. I turned to the mother and told her that unless she got her son to quit banging on the tray, I would teach him every four-letter word I knew for him to repeat in front of his grandmother ... and I assured her I knew quite a few.

The rest of the flight was very peaceful.

flyguy: Catman would only spill Coke and not Pepsi because he would not want to waste something he considers valuable.

Empress: Sometimes people who are "only" trainers have been in their profession a long time and wish to share the benefit of their experience with whose who are newer. It's not always true that "those who can, do, and those who can't, teach."

How about those people who get to the gate/ticket agent and act as if this is the very first time in their life that they are being asked for ID! They then proceed to pat all pockets, look in luggage, bags etc and then slowly take out their license. All the while looking very annoyed at the agent!

What I find really annoying are those people who can't seem to travel without 20 or 30 of their closest friends.

Like last week I was at the RCC in LAX when all of a sudden this huge crowd of rowdy partiers came in, bringing their own champagne and whooping it up like there was no tomorrow. I thought the club was the last bastion of peace and quiet at the airport, but NO. Cameras flashing, people hugging and kissing and laughing all the time. Disgusting.

I was so relieved when it was time to board my flight to Hawaii. Fortunately, I was in business so I could board early and escape these crazy people.....or so I thought. They were ALL on my flight. Let me tell you how truly annoying they were--I heard a couple of them actually refuse double upgrades to first because they wanted to be with their "friends". And, let me tell you, they were with their friends. They had booked the whole upper deck and treated it like their own private club. More laughter, drinking and partying--even DANCING throughout the entire flight than one would ever have believed possible.

They even brought along more friends than could fit on the upper deck so all through the flight they were running up and down the stairs laughing and carrying on like it was a Frat Party. Hard to believe but true. One FA told me that they had totally wiped out all the Jack Daniels on the plane--in all three classes. What is air flight coming too?

Can't UAL do something about these types of people????
