Getting Extra Miles -- Spend at Lowes & Disney

Hello, we have big spending coming up on Lowes and Disney, and wonder what would be the most rewarding ways to get the extra miles?

I learned about Ultimate Rewards online, but then they said buying gift cards online does not count, as it is a "cash transaction". Can they really figure out if I bought gift cards of lowes at say OfficeMax online? How about In-Store?

Thanks!!
Sean

For Lowe's I regularly use the triple stack as I like to call it...

Discount giftcards (whether bought at a store or cardpool etc.)
Portal (Ebates etc)
10% off coupon (search for it on google)

The best I could figure out for disney is 5% with amex bluecash at a grocery store.

Simon Malls $10 Amex Gift card for every $50 Lowes Gift card

I was just at my local simon mall. They had a promotion running thru 8/19/14 to receive a $10 Amex gift card for every $50 lowes gift card purchase. I doubt you will find any better than that. that is 20% cash back.

I didnt see restrictions on the number that you could purchase

If you have some lead time using the Chase Ink for 5x at OfficeMax is a great way to buy disney gift cards. I say you need some lead time because the stores around here only get $1-2k in Disney gift cards each time, and don't seem to resupply for months. I continually cleaned out every store in Cincinnati and Columbus for a 6 month period. Ended up purchasing about $8k in Disney gift cards.

I then loaded them all to a Disney Vacation Account, and used that to pay for multiple resort stays and half of a Disney cruise.
