midcitybeth, when you say "I bought 25 in merchandise and 25 gift card and was credited miles for the full amount" do you mean the 15 miles/$ have actually shown up in your AA account, or just showing on the shopping mall site as a transaction pending posting?
If you actually got the miles, good on you, as the T&C clearly state that GC are not eligible:

I get a ton of things at Walgreens. Bought contact lens solution, band aids, blister aids (upcoming ski trip), Nice snacks (kids favorite), feminine napkins, Aveeno body wash (son has eczema), etc. Total cost about $100. All things we buy anyway.

but would it be $70 at walmart ?
the problem I have with these buys is that the prices are regular everyday prices and I always but 2x 3x what I need when something is on sale,
so the miles are really not "free" with my buying habits

Walgreen's has sale items, too. And closeouts. With the 15x and the 750/1500/2500 holiday bonus, this is worth it to me. Assuming I actually receive the miles.

Agree depends on buying habits. I live in an urban area - the closest Walmart is an hour away, so I never go there. I do go to Walgreens a lot. My purchases if anything was replacing what I usually get on Amazon.
I did want to hit $100 to get the final 1000 mile bonus. So 2500 miles for $100 is a good effective discount for us.

Bought $100 GC and waited for it to be confirmed, then bought another $1k in GC and they have all been confirmed for the 15x points. Now i gotta go use these to buy Visa/Amex GCs in a Walgreens store, and then drive across the street to CVS to buy VR's. Kind of wish i would have bought more, but didn't want to push it.
