Help with a Lufthansa flight booking using partner miles.
Hi all,
I would like to book a flight for a friend in Munich to come visit me in Southern California. There is a direct flight on Lufthansa from MUC -> LAX but I am a total rookie when it comes to anything Lufthansa or Miles & More.
Here is what I have to work with:
United Miles ~300k
Chase Ultimate Rewards Points ~200k
Amex Points ~120K
SPG Points ~85K
AA Miles ~ 55K
Marriott Points ~ 50K
The date is not certain but it's most likely some time in Jan or Feb of 2014. This can be an economy seat but the main requirement is that it be the direct flight from MUC -> LAX and the same on the return. My friend is a rookie traveler and can't really deal with airport switching without a trusted companion. Also, I have a Miles & More account set up but I currently have no miles in it.
What I am looking for is the best partner to either transfer miles/points to the Miles & More account and/or the best portal (Amex/Chase) to book the flight directly.
Thanks in advance for your help!

You certainly don't want to book through M&M directly -- they charge you almost as much fuel surcharge on your free ticket as a paid ticket would cost
Simplest solution: call UA and ask them if seats are available for redemption.
HTB.

Just go on United.com, do a simple flight search for MUC-LAX roundtrip and select "Award Travel" under "Search by". There is plenty of award space for MUC-LAX non-stop roundtrip. In economy, that will cost you 60,000 miles, 100,000 for the business class.
Also, don't forget, that with an itinerary such as MUC-LAX LAX-MUC you can add one US domestic (or Canada) or europe-europe one-way flight at no additional cost (in miles), e.g. MUC-LAX LAX-MUC MUC-BCN

Yes, just book with united for 60k econ or 100k bus class.
After it is booked, you can then pick your seat by going to Lufthansa website with the luft confirmation number that will show up on your united booking.
That is a pretty cool 12hr 30min direct flight 50k business class I check for jan 13th.
