I agree.
Dont forget the best last minute option that most people tend to forget . If still don't have a room last min when all else fails, use Priceline.com-- not always the best option to use but sometimes not bad when all else fails. Note: may not always get the location you want but you could always decline and try again for another location nearby.

This post is apt. There is no real reason to book direct with hotels paying published rates unless you're getting *lots* of elite status benefits for doing so. Priceline rates are routinely 30-50% off published rates.
Ignore this advice if your average published hotel rate is already < $100.
