What are some reasons behind variable partner mileage-earning?
There are different EQM/RDM earning on partner flights
Im curious what are some of the reasons behind these... besides the obvious that carriers prefer them flying on their own craft
-is it a reciprocity thing? e.g. you give me low earnings, i give you low earnings
-is it a historical thing? always been that way - why change now
-to discourage flying on partners with big overlap on routes?
-is it a matter of negotiation or each carrier just makes their own calculation
etc etc

It's a money thing. Airlines pay each other a certain negotiated amount per mile they allow partner flights to earn in their mileage program. If a partner airline won't pay enough, the airline that hosts the mileage program grants fewer miles.

As this concerns miles, not travel topics, please follow the thread as it moves to the MilesBuzz forum. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.
