No, it doesn't. It means that the customers of either airline can earn points in either program when flying on either airline, but points already accrued cannot be moved between the programs in any sort of "interchange" activity.

First let me preface this with the fact that I am not disputing anyone here. I'm trying to learn. With that, I have a couple of questions...
1. My home airport does not have AS, but does have both AA and DL. If I book through AS (and it is possible) to a destination served by both AA and DL, and I choose a DL flight, can I use my AA miles to "pay"?
2. So I can fly DL or AA and put those miles on my AS account, THEN book either AA or DL using my AS miles?

1. No. AA miles can only be redeemed at aa.com, or by calling AA.
2. Yes, as long as the lowest-tier ("SAAver") award seats are available on the AA flights. (Not sure if higher-tier DL award flights can be secured if you are willing to spend more AS miles.)

I know the present is the topic of this thread, but in the past, I seem to remember getting a frequent flyer ticket with a combination of US and AA miles. This was before US joined Star Alliance.
