What have you found so far when trying to use your BA miles or Amex points?
Helpful to know what you have tried and found.

Look at AA .com and look for saver seats. Can book with BA.
Look at United.com and look for saver seats. Can book with Aeroplan transferred from Amex (or with Singapore Krisflyer, though you'd have to call in to book and transfers can take a while, though my last MR->SQ transfer took only 2 hours). I believe SQ allows one-ways.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am relatively new to this so I just wanted to get some ideas/input.
I found an AA flight on the 23rd business class to LAX for 25k miles and a return to DC on the 1st for 12.5k miles in coach. Is this considered a good deal?

So yes, in mileage currency, those are good deals.

I've only done DL and AA biz transcon, both were great, don't know how UA's new ps stacks up.
OP -- what you found is great. Book them ASAP and enjoy your trip!

No last-minute booking fees with BA Avios. Taxes should total about $5 for the JFK-LAX-DCA itinerary.
