Excluding Sign-Up bonuses, on an average how much does you point balance (across all points programs) grow by?

I think on average about 15,000 to 20,000 miles total across my United, AA & BA accounts without flying and without credit cards

sgideons Jan 24, 2013 4:35 pm

27k from manufactured spend, plus 1-5k in real spend + awards activity (flights and stays). No business travel.

you do mean without CC sign up bonuses, not CC spending, correct?

this thread could get interesting.:D

iqbalt80 Jan 24, 2013 4:51 pm

Between 25K - 30K on manufactured spend...Right now my activities are on hold due to stupid charge back situation. Will start VRs soon.. never needed them ;)

StartinSanDiego Jan 24, 2013 4:53 pm

I'm about 8-10K in spend and about 5 K in various incentives (portal shopping, play a quiz, retention or spend bonuses, etc). So about 12-15 K points a month, roughly.
No business travel, no ticket purchasing (award travel only). No Bluebirds or other manufactured spend, but I'm eyeing those options.

AlohaDaveKennedy Jan 24, 2013 5:16 pm

100kish nonbusiness

JATR4 Jan 24, 2013 5:24 pm

18.5k from Bank Direct plus another 8-10k from spending. 5X for Freedom gas purchases; 5X for Citi Forward food and grocery purchases; plus a couple of thousand meeting spending on Skymiles, Starwood, and Mileage Plus.

rajuabju Jan 24, 2013 5:31 pm

Def. an interesting topic. Curious to see who the true "heavy hitters" are...

My monthly averages are:

20k/month from BankDirect (AA Miles)
15k/month for business related (Ultimate Rewards)
20k/month for personal spend (various)
10k/month manufactured spend (various)

My manufactured spend was crazy high during the Mint Days. And I also get probably 1/3 of my points from sign-up bonuses.

NetBrowser07 Jan 24, 2013 5:49 pm

Figure I should add mine too... 15K - 17K from regular spend. No business spend. No travel.

brooklynmatt Jan 24, 2013 5:49 pm

All points are not created equal..

At the moment:

Manufactured
30K HH
10K UR
2K SPG
2.5K AA

Plus - 5K Shopping (Diverse portals)
Plus 2K Biz 3K Personal spend

Are you maxing out the IB at OD for 25k UR a month or what?

Also, I'm super jealous of those of you with these huge personal spends - I wish I could afford that! Maybe someday.

About 70k chase points a month from business related charges .

noelr Jan 24, 2013 5:51 pm

I'm just getting in to manufactured spend, but I'm already up to around 25k UR each month plus 1-2k in actual spend. Don't know what took me so long..

That's 60K per month... pretty impressive.

NetBrowser07 Jan 24, 2013 6:00 pm

Also.. just to get the basics right, Manufactured spend is spend that you eventually get back?

snugglening Jan 24, 2013 6:00 pm

8k UR biz exp. monthly.

MilesGator Jan 24, 2013 6:10 pm

H***S***!

I had no idea people were into this and bringing in this many points per month! I'm pretty new, but I thought I was doing really well bringing in about 6k/month with half as manufactured spend.

shoreline Jan 24, 2013 6:14 pm

It is spend (i.e. GC's) that you are cashing out or somehow getting the funds right back.

Perhaps e.g GC's would be more appropriate since some of use poor souls live in NYC... and pickings are slim.

5k at drugstores @6points/$1 on HHonors Amex. This one should be widely doable atm, but will be changing in the spring.

I have 30 AP Accounts.

Come on this is FT, you can't just have a new thread not titled 'getting spending up without the mint' talk about getting spend up without the mint and how you actually do it! Madness!

I get them through a Txf from Virgin. But I can say no more else I will be cast out of the private forums where you have to pay 1M UR points just to be accepted into.

They must not really like you. My invite was only 250k UR.

And a "Wow" to 30k HH? Lol....

sidar Jan 24, 2013 9:20 pm

I don't get how people have such high manufactured spend. I am new but I see AP and the GC 5x route. After these I have no idea how you guys are generating so many points.

This is my first month trying to get manufactured spend, but I get about 20-25k through real spend

6x HH is too easy & skews the numbers. Kinda like 5x IB. Come Spring, more tears showers will be falling on FT than rain from the skies.

iqbalt80 Jan 24, 2013 9:44 pm

2012 was a very productive year. Gained over a million miles/points through credit cards signup, manufactured spend and OD GCs..

yoonny Jan 24, 2013 9:47 pm

Damn, I thought I was doing well with about 15k on average. I need to work much harder. Business owners have an unfair advantage.

lkar Jan 24, 2013 9:57 pm

My numbers probably look low in "k" because I am a bit strategic with VR. I already have a bunch of HH, so the 6x isn't a huge pull for me. I have a decent amount of expenses that, until BB, were zero points per dollar. So on those, even 1 point per dollar is good if it's on the right card. Like the US Airways card where $25k in spend is good for 10k EQM. I have 2 UsAirways cards, so working toward the EQM keeps me busy. I would rather have 5k US plus be 20 percent of the way to 10k EQM than get 30k HH for the same spend. Other than working toward the EQM, I use VR for credit card sign up spend and, at the end of the year, to hit any attainable, close threshold bonuses, like on the PRG or the original Ink Bold, which I still have.

Thanks. I wasn’t aware that Hilton AmEx is 6/$ at drugstores.

New to the game, but pushing ~80K per month, mostly UR/MR (~60K) from nonbusiness spend (on business cards - go figure). (Rest comes from UA/AA/HA).

VRs finally arrived mid-month and that's making life much easier. A few months to get my programs going and 100K seems possible. I'm gunning for you ADK! :D

Agreed. All points aren't created equal. Those HHonorpesos are worth a fraction of an UR/MR (~1/6th or less for the aspirational redemptions I'd be using them for). Once I saw the comparable redemption value, I stopped bothering with Hilton for the most part (although I do grab 24K/month using Amex @ CVS for grins - but I only value them at 4K).

extremeromance Jan 25, 2013 2:56 am

About 50k Ultimate Rewards a month from business expenses. I don't get into any kind of manufactured spend, gift cards, vanilla reloads or anything else to draw attention :)

Yeah they aren't as valuable but still very good for aspiration all travel for me- eg next trip 4 nights Conrad Maldives and Condrad Tokyo for 290k of course I'd rather have 290 spg but still have value to me axon cat 7s like these.

lol

My personal spend is on cards such as HHonors Surpasss which gives 6x on groceries & drugstores, Chase Sapphire which gives 2x for dining, PenFed Visa which gives 5x for gas, etc...

The actual Dollar amount for personal (and every other category I listed) is lower.

Like most others, getting 5x-6x for gift cards, doing some Bluebird, AP, etc... for the manufactured spend.
