Travel Hacking For Hong Kong

Hi guys,

Great forum I'm a newbie here, I've just discovered travel hacking and it looks awesome!!!

I was wondering is there any ability to do it in Asia especially Hong Kong? That's where I live.

It looks like most of the generous points for credit card signups are for US right?

Travel Hacking For Hong Kong

Would love to hear options for Hong Kong people as well. Feel a bit left out with all the stuff primarily geared towards US.

Same here in Singapore, it's tough for us here in Asia. We don't seem to have Hotel co-brand cards.

In HK, I noticed there's credit cards with welcome offers. Those look like good starting points to go with. Take a look at the Amex Platinum Card (Charge card) if you're eligible, heard it has good privileges for travel. I do see HK have Amex co-brand cards with airlines. Do take a look.

Welcome to FT.

Although there is a possibility (and it happened in the past), it is extremely difficult to do anything to do anything from HKG.

But here is what I can suggest:

1. Check out anything related to Japan right now. The Sino-Japan dispute is an opportunity.

2. Re-position yourself - like going from TPE may be better.

I'm not sure about exclusively co-branded cards, but I know my UOB card offers some hotel benefits that could be worthwhile.

Right, unfortunately. We don't get to see as generous offers in either Asia nor Europe.

How does the territory dispute have anything to do with credit card offers for Hong Kong residents in HK?

Are you talking about something completely unrelated to OP's inquires?

I thought OP's interested in credit card offers. I don't see any exciting signup bonus offer in Taiwan either.

OP was asking about travel hacking, which is not limited to CC bonuses. I believe his advice was geared at various ways to find cheap(er) flights.

Thanks. It is indeed my intend.

Getting CC bonuses is basically impossible in HKG.

Here is an example - for UA, the co-brand card in HKG offer merely 4000 RDM, but the U.S. co-brand card offer as high as 55000 RDM.

Signup Bonus in Hong Kong are generally quite low.

However, the earning rate for getting miles via credit card spend are actually on par with US cards.

I recommend looking into the British Airways program as it often allows you to redeem tickets on Cathy Pacific for less miles than Cathy's own program.

http://www.dahsing.com/en/html/credi...d/ba_card.html

Local spending HK$6 = 1 Avios
Overseas spending HK$6 = 1.5 Avios

And redeem for Hong Kong <-> Tokyo Roundtrip only cost 20,000 miles

Thats interesting. I did not realize that BA miles could be cheaper than Asia miles than Cathay. Just played around with it, and yes short haul routes seem to be cheaper. Makes sense to tfr points to ba rather than Asia miles for these. Wonder how taxes compare.
