The SPG option is virtually closed as whoever changes their account address is asked to show proof of that mailing address. I did a transfer last year and changed my address to my family member's, same last name and was still asked to show proof of residence there. I had to scan my drivers license which had that address to SPG.

So in essence this is shut down IMO.

Same here, at the very least they require some sort of bill to prove you live at that address - phone bills work, thankfully, but any time you move you'll have to go through the same 'ol song and dance.

But if you are truly spouses, then SPG works just as intended.

Just a note on Carlson merges...

I called in a few weeks ago to merge my Mom's points into my account.
The agent required that Mom be on the line to confirm everything.

So no big deal, as it is not urgent to get this done.
I will just have to call back later,
when I can conference Mom into the call.

Here's the response I got from MR SM:

I understand that you wish to transfer your points from your **** to your **** card.

I'd like to inform you that the points can only be transferred when the Cardmember is listed as a Basic Cardmeber on both of the card accounts.

Please understand, it is not possible to transfer the points since you are listed as an Additional Cardmember on the **** card.

I appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If there is any other way in which we may be of assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

If your American Express cards are issued in the USA this is correct, there is no published feature to permit transfers between cardholders. There is anecdotal evidence that customer service will do this, by telephone, on an exception basis. There is no assurance they will grant any particular request.

What type of cards do you have? Previously, you mentioned that they a credit cards, which suggests Blue from American Express. Is that correct? What would be the benefit of combining the points?

Yes, USA issued and one card is a Blue Amex. The purpose of combining the MR is because since I don't use that card too often I don't have enough MR to redeem for anything worthwhile...less than 2500

Which is the intent of SPG. I have yet to do it, but I intend to transfer my wife's points to my account.
