Did HH recently introduce this same address restriction when booking for others? |

I believe that this is only if both parties have the Hawaiian Airlines credit card: http://www.hawaiianairlines.com/Hawa...es/share-miles

BA has household accounts for Avios ... you can't transfer points but you can pool them for redemptions.

Also, regarding Marriott, it was my understanding that points can be combined at the time of redeeming points - but only between family members. Is this the case? |
Has anyone transferred MR points to another members account? T & C say it can't be done.
Can I transfer Membership Rewards points to another person's account? No. The points accrued in your account are not transferable to any other person or account. For a complete description of the Membership Rewards program, please see the Terms and Conditions. |

SPG is a hotel program, already mentioned in post #1. Points earned with an SPG credit card are automatically deposited in the cardholder's SPG account and the card issuer has no further involvement.

Hertz allows points to be moved from one family member to another if both are gold.
Call the #1 Gold Plus Rewards Desk (1-888-999-4900) during the hours of 0600-2100 CST Monday through Friday and ask for a transfer of points. |

For me the whole point of the transfer is to pool points for a booking e.g. if I have 28K points and my wife has 30k then we could book a 50k category room if we can combine the points.

This tip is helping me look at QF. |
Folks thanks for the responses. Please let me know if the transfers can be done online/phone and if there are any other restrictions such as same address, x number of times per year.

Transferring Miles/Points to Another Person
What programs allow the transferring of points to another person for a fee and what programs allow it free of charge? It'd be nice to get a thread going with that info. I'll start:
Free Transfer Club Carlson: "Yes, if you have the name or account number of another Club Carlson member, you may transfer points to that person by calling Member Services." (1-888-288-8889) SPG: "'It’s not possible to create a joint Starwood Preferred Guest account and we are unable to combine two accounts if they’re registered in different names. However, it’s possible to transfer Starpoints between two Starwood Preferred Guest accounts if the household address is the same on both accounts." (http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...al.html#N10084) Transfers that Cost $$$ Hilton Hhonors: "You can instantly transfer your points to another HHonors member in increments of 10,000 points, at a cost of $25 USD per 10,000 points. This rate applies to all points transferred up to 200,000. After 200,000 points have been transferred in one calendar year, all additional transfers are free of charge." (https://secure3.hilton.com/en/hh/cus...t/transfer.htm) |
Format the first post a bit better. SPG - free within the same address.

Shorter, which makes them more clear.

I would note crucially that "point transfers" are often used as the basis for promotions.
Many airlines allow points to be transferred but the cost of the transfer is often close to or even greater than the value of the points themselves. In these cases, point transfers are almost pointless (no pun intended). For example: USAir allows points to be transferred for a fee of 1 cent per point, plus 7.5% tax, plus $30. So a 50,000 point transfer costs $567.50. However, last fall they had a promotion where for every point transferred out, the recipient got two points. So if you transferred 50,000 points, you were in effect buying 50,000 points for $567.50. Delta has had similar promotions, although I don't know if their bonuses have been as high as 100%. So to say "USAir charges 1.075 cents per point plus $30" would be accurate when they don't have a promotion, but someone reading this "definitive" thread could be easily misled if they do have a promotion at some point. |
OP updated to add KE:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/20295681-post12.html Also added EK, QR and KU. For Chase UR looks like they now restrict transfers to spouse. |

CREDIT CARDS Amex MR (transfers to other's MR account by special email request; transfers to others FFP online) |

This is interesting because when I called Amex about this they told me you cannot combine membership rewards accounts even if both parties have same address. Perhaps it is because both cards are credit cards and not charge cards. Anyone know the special request email to give it another shot?

The SPG option is virtually closed as whoever changes their account address is asked to show proof of that mailing address. I did a transfer last year and changed my address to my family member's, same last name and was still asked to show proof of residence there. I had to scan my drivers license which had that address to SPG.
So in essence this is shut down IMO. |
Same here, at the very least they require some sort of bill to prove you live at that address - phone bills work, thankfully, but any time you move you'll have to go through the same 'ol song and dance.
|
But if you are truly spouses, then SPG works just as intended.

Thanks just sent over SM...hopefully they will oblige my request. |
Just a note on Carlson merges...
I called in a few weeks ago to merge my Mom's points into my account. The agent required that Mom be on the line to confirm everything. So no big deal, as it is not urgent to get this done. I will just have to call back later, when I can conference Mom into the call. |

Here's the response I got from MR SM:
I understand that you wish to transfer your points from your **** to your **** card. I'd like to inform you that the points can only be transferred when the Cardmember is listed as a Basic Cardmeber on both of the card accounts. Please understand, it is not possible to transfer the points since you are listed as an Additional Cardmember on the **** card. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If there is any other way in which we may be of assistance, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely, [Redacted] Email Servicing Team American Express Interactive Services |
