Question: Best use of miles & points for SFO - SGN
Hello all,
I'm a bit stuck/confused trying to get an award ticket, economy or business, from SFO-SGN. Going from around Dec 17-26, and return in 3 weeks.
Currently I have:
38K AA miles
60K UR points
85K MR points
possibly 60K SPG points (in 1 month)
I have enough AA miles for one way economy.
I can transfer MR points to BA with 40% bonus? Enough for one round-trip on economy.
The other problem is the limited awards available on One World during Christmas.
Appreciate any inputs. Thanks.

Since UR points also transfer to United, have you checked either one-way or roundtrip availability on UA and its partners at www.united.com?

I suggest building up your mileage balances with AA and/ or UA . You should be able to find flights on partner airlines. Beware of high taxes and fees on BA award tickets. Go for a premium cabin for the TPAC, you won't regret it. AA partner Cathay Pacific in business class would be comfortable. First would be a nice treat if available!

Book SQ via your Amex points to Krisflyer ... either SFO-ICN-SIN-SGN or SFO-HKG-SIN-SGN. You have enough for business class one way if it's available (68K if you book online). You will have to pay a fuel surcharge of up to $500, but it is worth it in the eyes of many here.
On the way back, use 60K UR -> United to fly *A partners from SGN to SFO in business. Thai, ANA, Asiana might be available, as should United.
Save your SPG points for hotels.
