I am in agreement with y'all about contributing and being involved; that interaction has been the most enjoyable aspect of FlyerTalk for me. Thank you for welcoming me so warmly!

"Lurking" has such a negative connotation. A lurker would be waiting to do NO GOOD! They might finally pounce when they see their opportunity. Is this a pre-FT trait? Perhaps they should be simply described as just "readers"?

Rudi,

How do you always manage to be so right? I'll see if iknuP can change the title.

well, I have to go against the politically correct trend - I like "lurk", if only because it is a great verb describing the behaviour of my black cat in dark corners and under furniture when he is interested in something but doesn't want to look too uncool or overenthusiastic. I like all the nuances that simpler words lack.
Any "lurkers" who really don't like it should post their opinions, in which case the term would no longer apply...

PremEx, I'd describe you as a prowler, peeping mark or "silly person outside in the heat".

---------

Here's a definition:
Lurk Following a newsgroup or sitting on an IRC channel and reading the messages without saying anything, as if you were 'lurking in the shadows', staying out of sight of the other users.
(from the Internet and UNIX dictionary http://www.msg.net/kadow/answers/ )

Alas, no OED definition, as I don't have my copy with me, and internet access to it is restricted.

A verbose thing, that OED....

of place.) Also, to live in concealment or retirement.

Thanks, NJ Dave

The concise OED is easier to lift than the full version, but this may be one instance where brawn and brain-power intersect

If anyone wants to buy pictures of an unshy Catman, please let me know. Catman has already tried to buy them all, but I kept the negatives. Anyone want to "lurk" at the pictures?

Ooops sorry doc,

When I popped on earlier, I just saw Rudi's post re "Readers" so I gave him all the credit.

Now, as I read it more carefully, I realize it was you who made that excellent suggestion. Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa. Maxima Mea Culpa.

I will be more careful in the future.
