Mileage Addiction-Is There A Cure???

I need your HELP!! I've been trying to kick this habit for years but I'm trapped. Every time I think I'm almost there, I get an email about a low fare and I buy another ticket. I check my mileage accounts several times a day. I peruse Flyer Talk a few times to see what everyone's talking about and make sure I don't miss a mile. Over the years I've been at the top tier of at least one airline program and one hotel program for as long as I can remember. I loathe coach. I get weak every time I have to pass that curtain-no matter whether it's a one hour flight or a ten hour flight-it just sickens me. That's why I can't do Southwest unless I can sit in the cockpit. 3 across doesn't work for me-even though I'm 6'3" and 175 pounds and don't need the space-just the legroom.

My wife says I need help. In fact, she say's that this whole FlyerTalk Group needs help! That's why I came here for help. I figure that some of you have surely been down this path before, albeit unsuccessful. But give me your best advice....that's all I can ask for. Thanks, in advance, for everyone's help.

I know exactly how you feel. While I'm not 6'3 nor 175 pounds I am being spoiled by miles as well.

The best way I can offer to help you is for you to transfer all your miles to me. I'll then coach---ehhh bad word choice, you in how to totally kick the habit.

What? Are you serious? The condition is fatal. 99.9% of us are then headed straight for hell since they ain't giving miles for flying up to heaven. The devil offered to upgrade our rooms to suites with hot tubs and saunas and that pretty much sealed the deal.

Find something else you really enjoy. But I don`t think it`s the worst habit or addiction, and not the most expensive either for sure, so don`t feel too bad :-) When you have too many miles and points, please feel free to donate them to me
Cheers

Take some time off, preferably in a nice relaxing locale far, far away from home. Start running the regression analysis now to determine whether you're better off paying cash (and earning more miles) or using miles.

I don't see a problem here. Perhaps the best thing to do is sit the wife down in front of the computer and have her do an app-o-rama and pickup a few hundred thousand points for her own FF accounts.

If it's still a problem, then she may need to consider counseling, but make sure you can use a CC that earns points. While she's attending, sign up for another card & bonus and you'll feel a lot better.

Try Scuba diving if you really want an expensive addiction...

The miles are only as good as where you can get with them. Don't be miserly, seek what you need for a real experience. If you don't have a goal to work toward, don't worry about what everyone else is doing so much.

Spend on what you need and earn miles for that. But don't overly complicate things by seeking the "most optimal" earning. You reach a point of diminishing returns.

The cure is easy. Never mind Southwest. Make sure to get Business or First class seats for you and your wife on a long flight from the USA (transatlantic, transPacific, or to South America). Once you seat a woman in Business, there's no going back.

After a few long flights sitting up front, my wife is now quite tolerant of my addiction. She lets me manage all of her credit cards and credit card apps, and she lets me go into her purse to add or remove credit cards (with little stickers to remind her which card to use for dining, groceries, etc.) as needed.

And it eats your time as well as your money. About 10 hours of travel, prep, and cleanup per 1 hour diving.
