What did that match you to? Their Gold Card upwards, as it provides SA Gold, seems to make sense, but the Silver with SA Silver seems worthless. Am thinking of applying for a status match with them.
Thanks for any info! |

Does anyone know if for the DL match/challenge one must wait to purchase the tickets until after the challenge/match is approved or if I can go ahead and buy the tickets for August?

In some programs, if you match after 1st July, status is valid for the remainder of that year as well as the whole following year. Prior to that date, it'd be valid only for the remainder of the year.

If, however, you do it June 16th or after it is good for the remaining of that calendar year, AND for the following calendar year. ^ Kinda like "buy one get one half off." SOURCE: my experience this year :) |
I have studied a few of these threads but I hope to crowdsource a little help with my decision.
I travel for leisure only, at least one trip per month. I earned AA Platinum this year, but in the future I'm fine with maintaining Gold. I am about 8k miles from guaranteeing Gold for next year (from what I understand). I am thinking of doing a United status match while I still have AA Plat. I'd try to match to Gold since their base Silver level doesn't have all of the benefits I'd want. I have right around 12300 miles planned for the next 3 months, and I could probably extend that to 12500. I considered Delta but they don't have good coverage of my usual routes. After this (and before the AA expiration date) I could still do the remaining 8k to maintain that program, but if I spend the next 3 months on this challenge I "lose" 12500 miles or so that could be contributing to AA (if that makes sense). I am slightly concerned that for either program, I may not meet the qualifying dollar spend requirement to maintain this in the future. My standard monthly route is 3000 miles but is often $200 or less RT on either airline. The low cost is what keeps me in the air as often as I am. But at least for now I can enjoy the benefits that I get the most use out of (seat upgrades, changes, security line, etc) for another year or so, and I guess consider my options once the $ requirements kick in. I have tried to speak with the United Customer Service folks but this is my only (but major) issue with them: it is all offshore and there is a huge language barrier. It is very frustrating to speak with them (especially compared to AA). I do know that most of my communication once this is over will be in person at the ticket counters, so I'm trying hard to not let the phone folks bother me. Any advice? Should I just keep on with AA or give United a try? Thanks in advance! |
Seems either one will take you where you need to go for a reasonable cost-$200 RT? Both programs appear to be similar though my experience with UA was not so good, so I stick with AA. You should probably stay with what you've got and make the most of it. The spend issue is a major factor going forward so unless you can do a CC waiver, consider that.

I don't do CCs at all so while I'm not sure what a waiver is, I doubt it is an option for me. Yes, they both seem to always have comparable prices for my routes. The schedule change/refund policies bother me (my plans change a lot) but so far I've survived. |
