Resell

Hey guys I would think a great idea would be to buy something (I just can't find the product) and then resell it to someone else. Kindof being the middle man meaning high cash flow on my cards. Product comes in and goes out fast, I wouldn't even care to make a profit, just not have a loss. Does anyone have any suggestion on what this product could be? Buy locally and who to sell to or buy online and resell online?

Why should I accept the delay, inconvenience, and uncertainty of going through a "middleman" who takes the credit card miles or points if I don't get a discount? Especially for a product where I also lose warranty coverage by not buying direct from the manufacturer or an authorized distributor? You're basically asking me not only to give you some miles or points but also to pay for the privilege of doing so while inconveniencing myself. I don't think so!

One of the areas its possible is sports and entertainment tickets. Just make sure you know what you're doing or you can run up big losses quick. But I have season tickets for a lot of the Los Angeles teams. The Lakers, for instance, are about to start the playoffs. If I wanted it'd be very easy to resell our tickets at well above face value and clear the StubHub fees. So your challenge would be getting the tickets at face value (i.e., managing to get them the day they go on sale). If you tried such an approach I'd caution you to stick to the big events (e.g., buying playoff tickets, marquee match ups (think Yankees vs. Boston), etc.

Sounds like a lot of work to volunteer to be a salesperson for the company for what amounts to maybe a 2% cut of the profits. But to each his own.

my wife used to do this, look for products at nordstrom rack, purchase them and resell them on ebay, she was looking at the profit sometimes 20-30%, I was looking at the spend she could meet. the key to this plan is you have to find highly desirable stuff at the rack. she made the most off maturnity jeans by high fashion designers.

So do I, but I'm going to keep it a secret so too many people don't pile on and kill my golden goose. Could a moderator contact me to arrange how best to release this secret? Maybe I should start a thread.

Gift Cards

Many, especially Home Depot sell for about face on eBay. You do take a slight hit for eBay & PayPal fees.

AP with a cartel. The trouble has always been getting the cartel operational and running the operation just right so Fang and the gang dunna shut you down. Else flip discounted giftcards running the spend through a kickback site.

My advice - keep the true tradecraft off the boards.

Sorry, this was a thinly veiled reference to what I thought was a notorious enough incident and associated thread a few weeks (months?) ago. I even tried to mimic the style and choice of adjectives (looks like I misremembered the "golden goose" bit). Evidently it was only funny to me.

Here's the original: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...e-posting.html

Apologies to all those who thought I was serious, no more PMs please :)

I totally got it. ;) I thought to myself, "wow, that sounds exactly like a rather infamous thread from a few weeks ago!"
