Airline Elite Status & Upgrades

Hi Everyone,

A bit of a noob question here: If I pay for an economy/coach ticket and then upgrade to business/first with miles...

Is it treated the same as an award ticket, and therefore I get no elite-qualifying miles credited to my account?

Or is it treated as a paid ticket and I get the miles normally awarded to me based on my paid economy/coach fare?

Sorry 'bout that. They're right.

Hey, were you the one I met on LAS-ORD last week?

This is correct. I've gotten the bonus for 1st class once when the airline made a mistake. So don't count on anything extra.

Keep in mind that it is very hard to upgrade with miles. Usually you have to buy a relatively expensive coach fare.

Depends on the airline, but often correct.

I fly a lot of AA which, domestically, is 15,000 miles plus $75, regardless of fare class. Bargain on BOSLAX. Not so much on BOSORD.

If the OP is whom I think he is, he's an AA guy. If not, well, my cheeks are red. Kinda pinkish, actually.
