Bonus miles for enrollment?

Hi, I have a friend who is new to the mileage game therefore she is not a member to any of the airlines. I am planning on getting her to sign up for airline credit cards. I am just wondering if any of the airlines have bonus miles for signing up? The reason I ask is that I know that if you are a new member to United, you would receive the 40K sign up bonus for the United airline card however if you have any mileage in your account, then you are offered 60K sign up bonus for the same card. Any help would be appreciated.

Her main trips will be flying from San Francisco to Asia.

I am looking to see if any airlines out there are giving bonus for enrolling in their airline membership. I know that U.S. air used to give 1000 miles for enrolling but that has expired so I am just wondering if any airline are currently giving out enrollment miles now. Thanks

I think Alaska airlines give you 1000 miles for signing up for online account and booking a flight online or something.

Start googling. These things come and go, and I doubt anyone keeps a running list.

Her best bet is to get the Sapphire Preferred first, transfer 1000 UR points into her United Account and then get the 60k offer.

Other Airlines with new member bonuses are Alaska (500), Frontier (1000), and Hawaiian offers 500 for following them on twitter.

AA and US often give out codes for signup bonuses and the best way to find those is a Google search.

If the point is just to get some initial miles into her account before signing up for a United credit card, she would be able to do that by enrolling in the United frequent flier plan, then registering for their dining program and setting up an account profile. She will need a credit card to do this, but any credit card can be used for this purpose. There is often a 1,000 mile bonus for setting up a dining profile; even if that offer is not available (I haven't checked, though I've seen the offer in the past), she can earn a few hundred miles with one dine.

Thanks guys for all the help. I think this dining program will be the way to go for her.

Why not just sign up for the UA account and buy an iTunes download from the shopping portal?

Also, I just did a post of all the airline 2012 dining bonuses.

SWA will give you 250 RR miles now to sign up. Good for free flights or 1st class upgrades.
