Bereavement

I live near SFO.
Memorial near JFK in two days.
Ample balances on Alaska, Continental, Southwest, American, and Amex MR.

Suggestions?

Thanks, community.

What are you asking? What tickets are most flexible? Cheapest? Best routing?

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Starnet (checked via Aeroplan) shows plenty of availability on the SFO-JFK direct departing tomorrow and returning on Sunday in both Y and "F."

I'm also seeing one-stops on the way out with space for even 6 passengers or so.

How to get there and back with the least travel time, using fewest miles & dollars. The carriers I checked had "close-in booking fees" for award travel so soon.

I don't believe Aeroplan does. It's 25K miles in Y (and 70K in "F" :-/) and taxes are $15.60. As I said, I see space on morning direct departures tomorrow and morning and evening direct returns on Sunday. How many seats are you looking for?

You can transfer from Amex MR to Aeroplan and it should be instant.

It's just going to be me.

Amex-Aeroplan sounds practical.

Thank you, MAbramovich.

I'd call the airlines and check policies. I had to take a last minute trip from OR to CA ~10 years ago. I just booked what I could find, then submitted a letter along with a death certificate or service program (can't remember) and had a refund check for ~1/2 the airfare.

Likely not worth the miles hit, unless you are short on cash or have TONS of miles to burn.
