Best way to follow up on missing points/miles

So I got into the mileage game a few months ago, and since then have been following this forum religiously hunting down deals and miles/points; most of the time things post within the 6-8 weeks like they say, but in some situations even after this period the miles/points still have not posted.

What are some tips for following up with different companies and airlines for missing miles/points, or does anyone have a certain template that works well for getting results? Is there a preferred method of communication or contact people that work best? (I use SM for credit cards, but that option doesn't really exist for other places) I always make sure to take screen shots of different promos I sign up for too so I think should help.

Any advice would be great!

Always read the T&Cs carefully, make sure you've fully qualified, wait until the specified posting period has passed before following up. When you do, try via email/contact form and be concise. Include the facts that you documented when you made your qualifying transaction as well as the relevant details of the offer. Then be patient, especially if others are following up with similar issues. Most of the time, this will work. No need to jump the gun, join the throng of others constantly complaining on FT and elsewhere "where are my miles?! this is a scam!". Not productive.
