Talking Where to get Marriott Points?

Hi

Got the Chase Saphire and the Marriott Premier credit cards within the last month.
These 2 cards provide 50K + 70k marriott points, are there any others current offers that provide marriott points directly or after transfert?

Thank you!

I'm trying the Facebook sweepstakes promo every day, but have only gotten 3,000 off them in the past 10 days or so. Takes a little bit of luck, but give it a go if you're on Facebook.

Is there a business version of the Marriott Premier?
For the Chase Saphire, this is "Ink", right? Is the points associated with this card transferable 1:1 to Marriott points?

Hi!
I need 50k Marriott points. I see that Marriott sells them for 1.25 cents per point. Is there anywhere that people sell their own? I've looked around craigslist and ebay but I haven't seen anything. Thanks.

In general, no, people can't sell Marriott points to each other.

Also in general, eBay seems to take down auctions for some Marriott-related items (such as coupons). Legally I'm not sure why this is done (e.g., under what jurisdiction and pertaining to what law). But it is...

One challenge with Marriott is that there aren't any easy "transfer in" paths that don't destroy a lot of value - and the Marriott Visa is terribly suboptimal for everyday usage. I remember converting a few of the old Diner's Club points to Marriott to top off for an award, but it wasn't a conversion I would have wanted to do in large quantities.

It's nice that you can hit some signup bonuses and quickly rack 120k, but to really hit the big numbers needed for the Travel Packages, you kind of have to stay at the hotels. A lot.

On the plus side, the 20 total points per dollar (if not more through the use of gift cards) for a Platinum member on hotel spend is a pretty competitive rate of rewards earning.

It's impossible for anyone else to actually sell real Marriott points. There's no way to transfer Marriott points that have already been issued from one person to another, so there's no way to sell them. Marriott (and only Marriott) is able to sell them only because they're selling them as a way of issuing them.

Furthermore, any attempt to "sell" points (or free night certificates) by an indivdual (through any roundabout means they might devise) is a violation of program rules, and may result in having your account closed.

And, btw, quit looking on eBay for something like this. If you did find it, it would likely be a scam!

Meanwhile, why do you need 50k points? What category of hotel is it? How much does it cost in cash? 50k points may cost a lot more to get than is worth it (compared to alternatives), depending on the circumstances.

(Alternatives for some categories -- though not the highest ones -- include free night certficates which can be earned at times with as little as two cheap suburban stays, and then used for a night which cost more than the sum of those two cheap stays. But the last such promo just ended and the next one won't start for a month.)

Yes, there are, but they're naturally all from Chase, and that begs the question of how many more Chase cards can you sign up for how quickly. (YMMV.)

Btw, they all require you to hold on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card that lets you transfer to Marriott.

The key to this is that Chase Shappire Preferred uses Ultimate Rewards points. If you have Chase Sapphire Preferred (or a handful of other "higher end" UR cards), you can transfer out. If you only have "lower end" UR cards, you can't transfer out. But if you have a "higher end" card, you can transfer the points you earn on the "lower end' card.

So you have (and should hold on to) one "higher end", Chase Sapphire Preferred.

Now, if you apply for, say, a Chase Freedom, the UR points you earn, instead of using for cashback, you can use for transfer to Marriott. I think there's a 30k bonus offer for Freedom right now.

There may be other UR cards you can get bonuses for. But of course they're all from Chase. And at some point Chase will become annoyed at you applyiing for card after card, transferring bonuses, and then not using the card again. So be careful on how far you take this, and you may want to keep using each card periodically at least for some "token" amount. At least use the Marriott card for all actual paid Marriott hotel stays. And if you get Freedom, which has rotating categories (which earn 5x up to a limit), you might as well use it when you need something which is in a current 5x category.
