Post Promo Depression / Rant

I've spent the year getting new cards and fulfilling promo bonuses...

Looking to pick a card to use primarily now, until the next big one...

but it's pretty depressing only getting 1 MR pt per $ or 1.25 BA Adios or 1 UR pt or 1 Citi TYP for most purchases, or a couple three pts for certain categories, BAH!

It's too much work trying to optimize for a few piddly points. (getting 10 miles per point or 20 miles per point when spending $100 that you may not have spent just chasing points is not worthwhile unless you would have spent anyway, and it becomes a bit easy to say well I'm getting 2-3 cpp and 15 points per $ spent so this thing is 45% off, I should buy it etc)

And chasing the various malls and making sure the doubledipped points will post is exhausting.

I like getting 30K or 50K or 100K for a few $1000K in spending without thinking.

I was going to get the WN card(s), but I'm waiting for January and I think it's gone anyway now.

Maybe I'll try the CO card? I dunno.

And then I don't feel like chasing MQM's on DL...cuz it's so random whether you will be offerred an easy promo for status, or they will devalue the status so much anyway that what's the point of trying to get 10k mqm's to make FO in 2013 by rollover.... BAH!

I think I'm going to just go for the easy 2% on Alec Baldwin's Card until another good promo comes.

You are not alone in your strife.

If you have a lot of restaurant spend, it might be worth getting a citi Forward card for 5 TYP/$ with 6k signup bonus. Easy to earn hundreds a year on that deal. Or the PenFed card for 5% on gas.

Frankly, I'm happy to be done with minimum spends for a while. My 2% cash card was getting lonely...

Still, an SPG Amex must be better than a 2% card, surely...

They're about on par for me but a Mastercard is so much easier than an Amex for my spend.

That's why you carry both cards...

But I'm sure you can get more than 2 cents from an SPG point...

Yes, it is possible to get more than 2 cents from an SPG point.

But it's just barely possible for me to get that much value.

My travel is cheap in cash and not so much in points/miles.

Some day, perhaps I will have loftier goals. But not today.

OP.. that's the kicker, is when micromanaging every point, it gets arduos and unmanageable..

In Canada, I guess the Gold Amex gets 2 points for all groceries, gas, drugstore and travel purchases.. probably same with some Amex Gold cc's in the US.. and we try and use Amex Plat as the next level down.. and a Visa per point, with 50% bonus on the groceris, gas, drugstore and some travel.

I've long given up looking after each point, and choose to concentrate on the larger chunks for collection.. sort of like pennies compared to ten dollar bills..
