Question on Chase Sapphire - 50K
I have an unusual question. A long time ago I wanted a card that offered me zero interest for one year because I wanted to float some money. I applied and received the KISS Visa (yes, KISS as in Gene Simmons) which did this for me. After hanging on to this card for a number of years Chase ended their relationship with KISS and did away with the card. I was offered several choices from Chase to replace my KISS card.
Now at the time, there were no extra spiffs - I did not receive any points for the replacement but there was no credit check. First they replaced my KISS card with the Slate card. I complained to Chase because the Slate card was pointless, and boring (in my opinion), and that is when they offered me the Sapphire instead.
Well, time has passed and I want to take advantage of the 50K offer from Chase Sapphire. Do you think that if I close my account and reapply for Chase Sapphire they will deny me -- since I already "had" one? I am yearning to get the 50K and I can't stand it. I tried calling and asking them to just give me the points but they refused to do so.
Thanks for any tips.
PS - My credit score is excellent.

I changed my slate to the freedom. I applied for the sapphire in Jan for 15k points no annual fee card. After numerous calls I was upgraded to the Sapphire preferred with 50k after 3k spend. I was told on numerous occasions I would have to wait a year to do the product change ,though I found out this was not completely accurate. So if it's been longer than a year i don't see any issues. If you have had the other card for years might as well keep it open.Just charge minimal amounts yearly to have Chase keep it open.

The 50k offer for the Chase Sapphire is targeted. The 50k offer that is open to everyone is for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. If you have the Sapphire then you can apply for the Sapphire Preferred. Otherwise, I highly doubt they will give you the bonus if you already have the Sapphire Preferred even if you close the account before applying.

Don't close out an old card if you can help it, older cards really add to your average age of accounts and thus your credit score. You might even use it for a small amount once in a while to keep it active.

i need help in deciding which card to apply for,
chase sapphire preferred or the Chase south west 50k points ?
SP has spend requirement and gives same $500 value giftcards like the SOUTHWEST offer and SW offer has no spend requirement and get 50k points after any first purchase but $69 annual fees?
thanks for any suggestions
