Targeted Delta 50 % bonus

I just got an Email that Delta Was giving a 50% bonus for people who buy miles between now and oct 31st 2011.

Targeted to select customers it says. Sold at 3.5 cents per mile so not likely anyone is interested.

Received this offer as well, but Sky Pesos don't seem such a great deal as *A

There are times where these sales do come in handy for certain people if you're close to an award and find a low award but need a few more miles, yes i know low awards are rare but they do exist so it is good to hear about them. The skypesos debate is well documented on here.

Hmmmm....I was minting Skypesos (transferring them between 5 accounts for the 100% transfer bonus) all last month for about $10.10 per k. Now they have gone up in value to $11.75 per k (50% of $35 per k)? Did your stock, bond or gold portfolio go up that much or did your bank CD match that rate of return or your real estate appreciate that percentage? And Skypeso appreciation is income and real estate tax free! Skypesos rock as investments!

I just got to ATH BE two hours ago, and was very happy with incline lie flat bed, food, service etc .I got over 5 hours sleep that's the most ever on a plane for me .

Best 100k plus $80 taxes I ever spent. Obviously they don't work for everyone, but I have accumulated 440k of which I have 340 K left.

Long live SM . Till, and I bite my tongue they devalue them .

This promo is far weaker than the 100% bonus it replaced.

Also, SkyMiles recently went up from 2.8 cents per mile to 3.5 cents per mile, just within the last month or two. So even with a 50% bonus, you're really only getting 20% more than you used to, even at normal prices.

Example:

100,000 miles at the old rate of $0.028 = $2,800
$2,800 at the new $0.035 rate = 80,000 miles
80,000 miles + 50% bonus = 120,000 miles

Considering Delta had a slew of promotions that just ended, this is really a waste of money IMO unless you are just buying a small amount to top of the account and book an award ticket.
