Confessions of a miles addict

My name is zensync. I have had my best month so far. This September I have collected 150,974 milepoints and the month is not over. I had to tell someone. My friends don't get it, although they want to travel--some day. So I thought I would confession here in flyertalk, where my peeps are... feel me?

My name is amolkold, and I am an addict (what is this AA? NA? )

I can't comment on this month alone, but since late May, I have earned over 500K miles/points in various programs. I am aiming for another 100K on US through the Grand Slam.

Nobody understood until yesterday, when I used 140K to book a F/J ticket that would otherwise cost about $15k. Of course, no one in their right mind would pay that much, but I value the ticket at a bit over $3k.

Im beginning to feel a bit of an addict myself. I've always been a bit of a miles hog and have done odd things to get extra miles but this forum (which I recently discovered) is indeed turning me into an addict. I signed up for 3 cc just last week. I am sure there are many more in my future.

I've got the time to leisure travel. I just didnt have the funds for the expensive international airfare. Now I will have the means....

As an avid Points Runner I fully understand.

Even my wife who benefits from all the J/F international trips groans when I sign her up to yet another credit card

"So what are you saving for? Hawaii? South of France?"
"You don't understand, the miles ARE the goal".

Um.....I hope not. My understanding is that AA/NA are to help you stop the addiction. I'm a functioning mile-a-holic, and enjoy being around others with the same disease

My dh has become a codependent. The other day he even called to let me know he put things in our Amazon cart, but wasn't sure how to do "the miles thing."

I'm using http://www.hillmanwonders.com/ as my travel bucket list. So far we have seen 1, 2, 3, 6, 16, 18, 28, 31, 33, 34, 36, 38, 41, 46, 65, 66, 67, 69, 72, 73, 84, 88 & 99. In March 2012 we are headed to Rio to check off 9 and 61 (can't do 77 as my wife hates crowds). Mideast or Paris in fall 2012. Australia in 2013 and perhaps Vietnam.

Great list. Unless you are a Muslim, forget #45. Too bad about #78 - in my book it makes the top 10.
good luck with the rest.

I can certainly relate!

I started off by flying for business.

Then I:
  • Started choosing flights with layovers versus direct flights to earn more miles.
  • Opened accounts in any program which would give me free miles/points
  • Started registering for bonuses with air/hotel programs.
  • Would choose a hotel out of my way just b/c I had status.
  • Signed up for credit cards - lots of them!
  • Started writing a blog.
  • Took vacation days so that I could attend DOs and hang out with my peeps.

I don't know what's next!

Seriously, I love doing this, and I especially love being able to give my family and friends the joy of traveling comfortably for free!

It is so nice to hear about others with my affliction!!! I've got multiple million miles left in the "bank." Most people clearly don't GET IT! I have seen a lot of the world and have had phenomenal experiences courtesy of those miles. You can't be too rich, too thin or have too many miles. Thanks to everyone on these boards for making it happen. You are all my heroes!

Miles are my hobby.. maybe I concentrate on accumulating them when I should be concentrating on other things..

Miles make me happy.. Lack of Miles make me sad.. Just blew 265,000 miles, and got it all replenished back within 4 months..

Too bad in Canada there isn't as many ways as the US to accumulate miles..;(

Thanks to you guys, everyone on FlyerTalk, I am becoming an addict. Just last night my girlfriend told me, "No more talking about mile for this weekend. I'm tired of it" I was trying to explain the Grand Slam promo and all the angles I was trying to qualify for. I'm sure she won't mind a biz class ticket to Venice next summer.
