So, When is the Best Time to Transfer Amex Points to Continental???

I have about 300K Amex points I want to transfer to CO. I was holding out just waiting and hoping that Continental will do something like BA or Delta's 50% promo.

I actually missed out on when 1 week they had the Tax free transfer ... where you don't pay that lousy $80 fee to transfer points.

So .... wait until last week? Will there be another tax free transfer? What are you doing in this situation?

thanks./

Consensus seems to be no transfer bonus expected so wait until the very end in case some other good option comes up between now and then. Tax will be collected, as it always was on transfers to domestic airlines, unless the temporary legislation that extended funding to the FAA is allowed to expire around September 16.

This thread has it all: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...ntinental.html.

I highly doubt that AMEX/CO will be doing 50% or similar promotion since the transfer relationship is ending on Sept 30th 2011. From AMEX MR website -

After September 30, 2011 you will no longer be able to transfer Membership Rewards points into Continental OnePass frequent flier accounts.

You can surely wait till the last week. However then there is a possibility that you might get busy or forget about it. The tax free transfer was an ideal opportunity. If I were you, I would transfer at least 100K now. Personally I don't care much about CO/UA since I hardly travel on them. Good luck!

If you don't need an award now, it doesn't hurt to just wait till the last couple days. Who knows, maybe they will offer a bonus to get some last minute cash from Amex
