Any answers to the above. I have the same situation right now that I need to spend $ 3000 on Amex Biz. I assume I can get it at the store or online and it will show up as an expenditure. I know I can use the cash cards purchased with CC to buy stuff at the store. Can I also ask for some cash when in store from the Cash Card ??

I purchased several Costco cash cards with a Visa card, and the purchase showed up as an expenditure for purposes of meeting a minimum expenditure requirement. However, purchases at Costco with your cash cards do not qualify for the annual Costco rebate (if you are an Executive Member at Costco), and the initial purchase of the cash card does not earn a rebate either.

As for cash refunds on your Costco cash cards, the cards are printed with a disclaimer that they are not redeemable for cash. In practice, your local Costco store might give you a cash refund as a courtesy, particularly if the card has been largely spent. In my two local Costco stores, one store gave me full refunds for the cash cards, but has recently shown increasing reluctance to do so. The other store has firmly refused to pay any cash on the card.

That helps in understanding the process from the actual holder of these cards. Many times people provide speculations and not facts. Thanks a bunch.

You are welcome. I do my best to avoid speculation, which is sometimes a problem on these boards. If you can't state actual fact (preferably with a cite to the source), it is best not to spread unfounded claims (or wishful thinking).

In fact, in my state, you can be arrested for speculating in public. It is considered a gross demeanor.

My experience is different. While the purchase of cash card does not earn 2% cash reward, the purchases at Costco with cash cards do qualify for the 2% reward.

The eligibility of 2% reward is determined by the items purchased at Costco (e.g. tobacco, postal stamps, cash card, etc are non-qualified items), regardless of method of payments (credit card, debit card, cash, cash card all earn 2% rewards on qualified purchases). You can verify with Costco customer service on this.

I stand corrected. I verified with Costco Customer Service that while the initial purchase of the Cash Card does not generate a 2% rebate, the subsequent use of the card will earn a rebate if you supply your membership number at the time of purchase (since cash cards can also be used for purchases by nonmembers).
