AAdvantage Shopping Mall

Newbie here, not sure if this is the right forum so forgive me if it is misplaced.

The restaurants.com offer seems pretty lucrative, 18 miles per dollar spent. I was wondering if it is possible to recycle this using gift cards and get more out of it. Here is what I am thinking, I'm wondering if anyone has any insight.

1. Buy $100 gift cards for $40 (netting 720 miles)
2. Use $100 gift card to buy 2 $50 cards (netting 1800 miles?)
3. Use 2 $50 cards to buy 4 $25 cards (netting 1800 miles?)

So you'd 4320 miles from $40, about ~1cpm, plus 4 $25 gift cards. Does anyone know if this would work?

I've used several restaurant.com vouchers, if you have a group going to a particular place in the program it's a nice deal. I've not bought any restaurant.com 'gift cards' but I assume they are not like a cash card, can't just walk in off the street and pay a check with it, need to go to the website and exchange it for a voucher for a particular restaurant, and meet the minimum spend and days of the week requirements. If that's the case, the gift cards are not a good deal, as they are usually "40% off face value" or with a promo 60% off face value. As compared to just buying a voucher for 80% off face value -- a deal offered twice a month on a regular cycle

Their gift cards ($100 for $40, etc.) obviously can't be used to purchase additional gift cards; they're only redeemable for restaurant vouchers.

Otherwise, this would be insanely abused even beyond miles/cashback referral offers -- you could simply buy a $100 gift card for $40, use that to buy 2 $100 gift cards for $80, use that to buy 4 $100 gift cards for $160, and so on and so forth.

I have bought restaurant.com gift card before. If you buy a $100 gift card you recieve a code that lets you redeem for a $100 or 2 $50 gift card at restaurants only. Not only that I believe you cannot earn miles when redeeming a gift card.

That is true. They are good for restaurant.com, not the individual restaurants
