To each his own. Because I'm redeeming for domestic economy, I figure I do about twice as well by mixing several cards.

(And BTW, I consider cashback the same as mileage or points. If I spend $25k on a 2% cashback card, that buys me a $500 ticket. If I spend the same on an AA Visa, I get 25k points. Very hard to find a $500 redemption in 25k points.)

You folks with fancy aspirations live in a different world.

What card currently provides 2% cashback? Annual fee?

I'd agree that $500 would buy a chunk of airfare (or even an ipad) though these days I am routinely seeing transcons for $600-700 so ROR on 25k miles is much better than a few years ago when you could find transcons for $200-300. Of course if your leisure flights cost <$500 then you come out ahead plus you get the miles for flying

I have an old grandfathered card that's no longer offered but the Fidelity AMEX is still available with no annual fee. There is also an Orchard Bank MasterCard with a small annual fee, if you can figure out their approval criteria, and the new Capital One Venture card seems to be 2% back when you redeem on (any) travel.
