best strategy for applying another chase CC in future

May 2011- applied and approve for British Airways 100k and Continental CC 50k bonus.

I have a UA Chase CC for 9 years.

I plan to apply for another Chase card should there be a very good Chase card offer in future or is the Saphire considered a good one.

Should I cancel UA card or not? If I do, how long do i need to wait to apply for new UA card?

While MilesBuzz is good place to look for information about current offers, you'll often find that information about the card rewards, redemptions and policies are discussed elsewhere on Flyertalk.

For example, Chase application policies are the topic of this long-running thread in the Other Cfedit Card Programs section:

Thanks for the useful link. So to confirm, does it seem like that if I cancel my UA card, I would be able to apply for another UA card 6 months for more later and receive the Bonus miles as first time applicant?

I would advise against canceling your UA card. It will negatively affect your credit score as it is a long-time account and removal of that credit line will increase your credit utilization ratio, both of which are major factors in determining your score. Specifically to Chase, giving up on that portion of your credit line will put you in a worse negotiating position should they decline you for a card in the future. Many have had success getting the card on reconsideration after asking to move a portion of an existing credit line to the new card.

Also, Chase seems to have about an 18-mth window in which a cancelled card keeps you on the "not a first-time customer" list.

I think the new member issue varies and 18months may not be the standard window.
I had a Chase CO card that was closed over 4 years ago ( I think back then the bonus was only 20k) and in April I applied for the 50k CO offer before it expired and was rejected for not being a 1st time member. Called CS but they confirm I had the card before. I tried to argue it was over 4 years ago but they said it didn't matter. Called over 3 times but was turned down everytime. Sad but true while others have reported to have somehow slipped under their 1st time member radar.

If there is no annual fee, it hurts less to just keep the card around and forget about it.

IMHO, it is unclear what Chase's policy on time between card apps is. Until maybe 6-8 months ago it was very tough on this. But, things have changed.

I got a Conti card, a BA card, a Sapphire Card and a Sapphire Preferred, all within a few months. Only issue was I had to call on the Preferred card after app was declined because I already had a Sapphire. Closed the Sapphire and got the Preferred (be sure you redeem your bonus from the Sapphire before closing so as not lose it).

Could have never done it without the great info from other FTers. Thanks, folks!

I've had 4 Chase cards within the last 4 months as well! In my experience, the calls with the Chase reconsideration analysts are fairly painless, if you're willing to reallocate credit lines or close a card.

Wow, there is a strategy?

In the last 3 months I got Continental, Priority and Sapphire Preferred. Priority and Sapphire within 31 days (had to call for Sapphire to be approved, but it was painless). I've also had 3 other Chase cards for a very long time. I think their once in 6 months policy is a thing of the past.
