Hurrah for MSY!

I must give credit where credit is due! I was at MSY on friday afternoon (can you say Tropical Storm Francis!). Despite the fact the the N.O. mayor declared a state of emergency, the highways were flooded and my (illegal) cab ride to the airport took 2.5 hours, MSY was open and operating at peak capacity. United had a special line to deal with last second check-ins (for weather-delayed ground transportation) like mine and all flights (inlcuding mine) were leaving on time. Kudos to the MSY authority and staff for their preparedness and ability to handle the situation! I guess with Beckles there to keep 'em in line, they have to try harder! :-)

Being that MSY is my home airport, I can honestly say that I've never seen MSY operating at peak *capacity* ... we have so much over capacity down here now it's not even funny!

Matt, I don't suppose you walked down to the end of C concourse where United is. American just moved in down there and their is just vast expanses of seats and space down there ... it's unbelievable!

Let's see ... 10 gates in A ... 12 gates in B ... 12 gates in C ... 6 gates in D ... we're up to about 40 gates now down here ... only 30 of which are occupied at the most!

Also, you'll hardly ever be delayed when you're flying out of here ... the highest I've ever seen is number two for departure!

That must be why things seemed so efficient. I did notice a lot of gates, but I was pretty rushed to get to mine, so I must have missed the fact that they were all empty. More airports should have such problems, and I'd be a much happier traveller!
