Airfare Taxes

Say I buy a $200 ticket, which is $150 fare + $50 taxes. If I don't take the flight, I obviously forfeit the ticket. But where does that $50 in taxes go? Does the airline get to keep it / part of it?

There are a myriad of questions related to taxes and fees that pop up into my head if the airlines get to keep that money no matter what.

Even if you are a no show, you paid for the ticket, the airline books the appropriate revenues and expenses, and the government still collects its taxes.

On an imaginary roundtrip BOS-SFO:

US Transportation Tax (US) $35.23
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) $5.00
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) $9.00
US Flight Segment Tax (ZP) $7.40

What about the facility charge? I assume this is paid to the airport. Would the airline still send that money to the airport, even though you didn't even show up at the airport to use its facilities?
